I am in the process of purchasing a highchair for DS. Have found that he can't fit comfortably into the Bumbo anymore and feeding him on the sofa or on the floor is a PITA - he always finds numerous things to distract him (be that a toy or a fleck of fluff on the floor), ends up trying to crawl away/project off my lap, gets food everywhere etc. So, have decided to elevate and (hopefully!) trap him in a highchair where there is nothing to distract him within easy reach.

For some inexplicable reason, I have my heart set on a Svan highchair. Why, I don't know. Given that I live in Croydon and can easily get myself a £12 Ikea Antilop chair, I know IABU. Yet, I keep staring dreamily at the Svan online, thinking it could be mine in under 24 hours. I'm having to wipe flecks of manic drool off my laptop screen. I did find a second hand Svan on eBay and was the highest bidder, but was pipped by the oh-so-annoying reserve price. Add that to having to arrange delivery myself via a courrier company (as I can't drive), it just seems like so much effort when Kiddicare will deliver it to me the following day.

So, ye muses of MNet, please come and give me a well-deserved slap to help me regain my senses. Many thanks in advance!

Hmmm?.I was expecting something a bit more outrageous and slap deserving!

It doesn?t suit my personal taste?but I did treat us to a trip trap and it has been fantastic (you don?t need to bother with the cushions you end up washing them too much). You save a lot of space and from the age they can sit baby is up at the table and part of the family. DD age 2 ½ is still using it as a chair?. I got mine from a website called ?back in action??.sorry, can?t do a link need to dash SGU is starting on TV??

i thinkkare nice if you can afford it why not

and tbh the plastic monstrosity looks so unaesthetically pleasing and municipal

i have bloom and like it

@ ThingumyandBob You an SG fan too? Great taste! I had thought of a Tripp Trapp or BabyDan but wanted the option of a tray that could also be detached.

Well, the penny has spoken and the Svan it shall be (3 heads in a row!!)! However, if I have a bunch of MNetters slapping me in my dreams tonight, I'm liable to change my mind

I personally think the svan one looks a bit ugly, but maybe its one that needs to grow on you? I have a(n orange) tripptrapp and love it, although there are lots of bars/slats to wipe down - although DS (14 months) does love to wipe his fingers everywhere! I like that he's right up to the table and that it'll last him for years to come - saw a friend's toddler using their's and looking v comfy.

I also have a antilop (am a childminder) and it takes 2 seconds to wipe down, but it doesn't have a footrest (so not as comfy i think) and I don't think it'd last as long as leg holes look small so you'd need a booster seat or something when they're 18 months(-ish?).

Would definitely recommend BLW though - no fights, baby chooses what they want to eat - you just have to give them a variety of food and let them get on with it!

Oh yes...we have SG1 and Atlantis all on DVD in our house! SGU a bit darker I think.

Enjoy the new purchase!

If you can afford it go for it.

I had my heart set on a Tripp Trapp andhad loads of friends telling me it was a waste of money - well DD1 is nearly 6 and still uses it. Went out and got another (2nd hand - poor NSC!) for DD2 and I even use them when we have friends over and we run out of chairs!

Well, I did it - I've just put together my Svan (ordered yesterday at 4.30pm; delivered this morning at 11am) and ... ... I think I'm in love

DS just woke up for his "last" (I wish!!) feed for the night and I couldn't resist putting him in it. All I'll say is thank God I got a separate harness - he could easily have pushed himself out of it without one

I shall report back on how breakfast goes tomorrow morning

it's lovely looking - but £170???? I wanted a wooden one without fripperies to constantly clean and I got the east coast 3 in 1 - here for £60 inc postage from kiddicare. It's perfect for DS now he's over 12mo but not actually any good for a little one. Seriously though, £170 is a lot of money. But if you are rich - hey, go for it.

i just got dd a booster after she had outgrown the bumbo and she was much happier sitting properly with us at the table. saves space, money and will last us for ages.
