In the middle of an online transaction (very reputable site) after entering my barclaycard details the next screen said

Mastercard securecode.

"Welcome to Barclaycard Secure.
You are not currently registered for this new free service.
Barclaycard Secure, provided in association with MasterCard®SecureCode?, protects your card when you shop online with this and other participating retailers."

Then boxes to give my card details.

No option to complete the transaction unless I fill this out first.

Is it ok or is it dodgy?

I get that with my RBOS card. You have to set it up the first time you use it then the next time you use your card online, it will send you to a page to enter certain letters/digits from the password you use to set it up.

It's another security measure to make sure it is you who is using your card and not someone else.

Also for Maestro card via Clydesdale. Glad it all worked out OK.

Ooo i've had that with my IF debit card for over a year now :D

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/12/2009 07:36

yes once you set it up you have to enter the password every time you use your card online. Helps stop stolen cards being used online. V good idea! DH left his wallet in a bloke's car once, the guy returned his wallet but copied the card numbers and tried to steal money from DH, which he could do as he hadn't set up the password yet.

I know the transaction has been done now, but Lloyds do this too.

comefollowthatstarwithme · 08/12/2009 09:29

Yes it is fine I posted the exact same question a few months ago after I panicked .

I get that with my nat west card. It shouldn't ask you for all of your details just some of them.
