To put a sign on my door to carol singers saying

"Unless you bother to learn the words to a proper Christmas carol like Good King Wenceleslas or similar and perform it competently in four-part harmonies, I am not opening the door and giving you any sodding money"?

I have already had two groups of kids essentially begging at my door with a weak two lines of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". If you give them any dosh they shut up immediately and move onto the next sucker- you don't even get a full song. Probably because they don't know any.

It was only last month we had urchins round demanding "Money for the Guy" (note: money, not penny- times change), AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A SODDING GUY!

Does this piss anyone else off?

God I hate carollers that come to your door. It is so awkward standing there looking at them!

When I used to do it with a choir we would stand at a point on the road and people who wanted to would come out and listen. We certainly did not expect money - it was just a nice tradition to entertain people.

I hate bloody scroungers!

Oh god, wish I hadn't clicked on this. Now have O Come All Ye Faithful, complete with descant knobs on, in my head and can't get rid of it.

Aaaaaargh

Aw - maybe a group of us can go sing carols round all the other message boards - netmums, bounty.... even that housepricecrash one

alwayslookingforanswers · 07/12/2009 19:02

aww Lily - that's a bit harsh.

If you're got 12 sops, 1 alto and a bass (currently what my choir for the Carol service looks like ) - well Carols for Choirs are a bit tough really. And some of those descant are SO high

i used to put a sign up on the door offering singing lessons for prospective carol singers @ £10 per half hour ..... . . nobody ever took me up on them though
