To think that other drivers might offer a wave of thanks or give some acknowledgement?

Yes, it's a small thing, but a modicum of civility to others when driving seems sensible. I am amazed at how many people simply pull out - when I have stopped to let them in, or made room for them to turn - without waving or acknowledging the 'favour' in any way.

I end up irritated that I have 'helped' a rude twit, instead of thinking I've made a small gesture that might have helped someone.

It is now so common that I am reconsidering being considerate - why bother? I'm in a hurry too.....

ooo fembear, that one always gets me because i know that when i let someone in and they then proceed to let the whole world in then i think wtf! why did i bother? so when its me i tend to let one more in and leave it at that

I always think if I let someone in and they don't - 'bah miserable so and so - why did I bother' ?!

I am a grumpy grumpy grumpy moo and live down lots of tiny country lanes, so lots of scope in this department:

Most other drivers are v. courteous and wave thanks when you stop for them, but what is it about middle-aged blonde women driving expensive 4x4s??? Never wave, and invariably have faces like slapped arses....

Old men who wish to prove their (non-existent) virility by stopping for you WHEN YOU HAVE ALREADY STOPPED FOR THEM, and at the narrowest point of the road they can find?? (and I drive a van...)

The local bus. Which is in a state of perpetual warfare with every other road user. And bashes them hedge-wards on a regular basis....

Ahhhhh.....rural road rage....GAH!

one of my pet hates too. i always give a wave even if its my right of way. it takes a few seconds doesnt it?!
i wave at them now regardless of whether they wave or not, soon gets the ones that havent done it waving like mad!!

Curly & Goddess, very enlightening So, does that apply to any display of consideration, eg having a door held open, picking something up for you you have dropped perhaps, allowing you to go in front in a shop queue if you only have a few items & another person has a trolley full? let's face it, no-one NEEDS to be considerate towards others, it just helps the day go a little more pleasantly, some of us twits just can't help it

I had a good one in the summer I was driving down the narrow Devon lanes when we met a bloody woman in a 4x4 who sat and waited for me to reverse a good distance so she could get by when I got going again discovered that there was a passing place about 10 yards from where she had stopped I was to say the least.she didn't even thank me either.

was going to post on this last night, when there was only 3 posts, but site went down.
One of my pet hates. so rude. and I say "yeah, no problem then ", as I drive off.
Which is a bit of a problem becuse ds1 , aged 5, has started saying, "but he didn't even wave thank you mummy", thus maybe i am a bit OTT about it !!
