To be REALLY REALLY pissed off about my SIL?

I know I'm probably going to get told that I am BU but I don't care. I'm angry and need to vent!!!

My SIL is ok, but a bit of a miserable drip really (I think her own family would agree). She moans about her 'crappy life' but she seems to get everything so easily.

She goes to America once a year, her and her DH work full time with no mortgage, kids etc but shes always moaning about not having any money. She hated her job and got another one, straight away. Fine. Then she hated that one and got another one at the hospital (straight away again) which I tried for ages to get in there and never could. She started moaing about how much she hated it there after a few weeks and is on the lookout again and recently moaned saying she wanted to stay at home all day etc. I pointed out to her that I have an illness that means I cannot work. She kept putting things on facebook like "doomsday, another day at work" and "yaaawwwnnnnn".

Now she has just been given a council property!! She and her DH rent a house privately and can easily afford to do so. I have no idea how she managed this as me and my DH tried for years when we only have 1 wage coming in. We were evicted from our flat when I was pregnant and the council wouldn't help us at all.

Now we have a shared ownership house which is tiny but its ours so we make the most of it and hope that in the future we may be able to get something a little bigger. We struggled for years to get this yet SIL gets everything soooo easily and complains and moans about everything. Apparently she can't have children as MIL won't look after them full time so SIL can go to work!!

I know I am probably BU but I get really fucking pissed off by it all.

Unhappy people always want to spread their unhappiness around...which is what your SIL is doing.

Avoid her where possible and if she starts up tell her to her face you don't want to hear, she's a miserable cow and can she shut up?

Amazing what direct talking does.

If you are REALLY lucky she'll stop talking to you.

bibbitybobbityhat · 05/12/2009 18:50

Just avoid her if she winds you up so much. Go out of the room when she starts moaning, never knowingly start a conversation with her, never invite her anywhere, never sit next to her at family gatherings. You really don't have to listen to her moaning if you can't stand it.

Re. the council house - presumably she has been on a waiting list for a very long time?

The people being blunt with you here are urging you to let it go because the bitterness and resentment that comes across loud and clear in your posts is ONLY HURTING YOU.

Yes, thank you bibbity. I have calmed down now, finally, and I know I wouldn't want to swap lives. I will ignore her if she starts moaning. At least I have DS to chase around as a good excuse.

I just got pissed off as my my brother has been kicked out by his mum recently and is living in a b & b and the council just gave him the number of a hostel. And they can afford to rent private quite easily when there are many others who can't.

BrunetteLady - having sent my DH off to a party with ds2 I have stolen a couple of moments to catch up fritter on MN and thought I would check in on old threads. Sorry not to have responded sooner, but glad this thead helped you gain a different perspective. I am sorry about the situation with your brother - there must be a lot going on behind that which is pretty stressful and especially tough at this time of year. When you see people with real problems it can be incredibly frustrating to hear from people who don't realise how lucky they are in comparison. Have a lovely Christmas.

Brunettelady · 13/12/2009 19:09

Thanks Working!! What a lovely message. Yes this thread did help me realise that I wouldn't swap with her for anything. My son is far more precious than anything she has. I'm going to be seeing her for xmas at ILs next week but if she starts moaning, I'll conveniently have to see to DS. Merry Christmas to you too!
