Ok I blatantly am. Sorry. But this has been bugging the hell out of me. Why do they dub the childrens' lines?

I googled this once and found an article about it which I now can't find. It's because the children in the show are Scottish which apparently makes them impossible to understand

I'd assumed it was due to poor sound pick up during recording. Accent, really? I suppose if you want to flog it to the States etc.

I'd always assuemed it was a stylistic choice - strange but then the whole concept is quite strange!

I'm more confused about why the characters are unable to speak in full sentences, given the age that its aimed at .

Isn't it aimed at babies? My DS (14 mths) loves it! He was sick 2 nights ago and we sat and watched about 10 episodes (he even kept his eyes fixed on it whilst throwing up into a bowl). It does get annoying after that many, but on the whole I think its better than most of the shows.

I think manger is right. It saves them having to record the sound when filming the live action. Much easier to do it in a recording studio later. Of course they can redub it for syndication across the world, but they could do that anyway, whether the original sound is live or not.

It's aimed at pre-schoolers leeloo1, so largely the 3-5 group. Even if was aimed at 2+ I would still expect models of full speech. Maybe it's just me!

I thought it was filmed in Canada - so I assumed the kids had Canadian accents. Cbeebies overdub everything American or canadian - like that one where the girl always makes up a story, that's set in new York. (sorry can't remember what it's called)

ineedalifelaundry is right. It's Canadian, so the children have Canadian accents. The Piplings are re-voiced too, but because they are computer animated it's a simple lip-synch.

Lots of Cbeebies shows are re-dubbed into UK English. Pinky Dinky Doo, Lunar Jim, Finley the Fire Engine, Chuggington. They are bought in and redubbed.

i think that sweetnitanitro is right about it being scottish as one of the wee boys in it is also in that me too! program. and i thought it was strange cos he definately has a scots accent in that program and not in waybuloo.
am thinking that perhaps i may pay far too much attention to cbeebies...

there was a scottish mumsnetter on a few months ago saying that her son was on it, and gutted that his voice had been dubbed over!
