Am I being unreasonable for telling my 13 year old off for sucking his thumb when watching T.V.or relaxing?

DD age 12 sucks her thumb too - when watching tv, relaxing or going to sleep. Are his teeth affected? DD's teeth not noticeably affected but the dentist can tell. I think if his are then it is time to stop?

YANBU dd (nearly 11) is not allowed to suck her thumb unless she is sleeping or ill! I just catch her unawares and pull it out. She knows better than to put it back in! Although I catch her 3 or 4 times a day!

Yes.
But then I am a 34 yo thumbsucker.
I wish my mum had been able to cure me of the habit when I was small, but she never did.
I only do it if I am sleeping or upset.

BitOfFun · 03/12/2009 20:03

I do it when I'm tired or if I'm concentrating. YABU- it's free and her teeth are formed, depends how she does it. You won't be able to stop her anyway really.

I have started prompting dd1, only allowed when she is tired

YABU. And annoying to your DS.
