what do you mean "turns" fgs

is it opening presents by turn, hosting xmas by turn???

noddyholder · 02/12/2009 18:56

No don't just do like us and let me do it every year!

Earthstar · 02/12/2009 18:56

my tip is make your own crackers

Tortington · 02/12/2009 18:57

opening presents?

yah i agree - get stuck in

Northernlurker · 02/12/2009 18:57

Totally agree. This is our 13th married Christmas and only the second we've spent at home! (Last time I was 8 months pregnant - thankfully didn't need to go that far again!)

If I could go back a decade or so and slap my newly married 'oh lets take turns' self I would. For about 5 years we used to one lot for Christmas and then the other lot for new year - mad especially as our parents live about 400 miles apart....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 02/12/2009 18:57

My tip is - don't eat sprouts, they make you fart.

FreeGeorgeJackson · 02/12/2009 18:57

no no
with hosting
oh we do turns with presents

Sagacious · 02/12/2009 18:57

as in skits?

My Aunt Ada does a cracking Les Dawson.

mankymummymoo · 02/12/2009 18:58

you mean "turns" like charades or everyone sings a song does a party piece or mimes or plays the piano type thing yes?

TootaLaFruit · 02/12/2009 18:58

I think FreeGeorge means taking it in turns to visit parents/inlaws. I must admit we do this though as I can't think of any way that we would 'choose' who to spend Xmas with tbh, and it saves the hassle of both sets of parents going "ooooh, so will you be with us this year?"

(NB the fact that my parents spend every other Xmas in a gorgeous beach house in Cape Town has nothing to with my decision.... ahem )

cornsilkwearscorsets · 02/12/2009 18:58

why do turns with presents?

FreeGeorgeJackson · 02/12/2009 18:59

well I am one of three but i say "i am at home" and that the deal.
ILS are happy to see us around 27th so not an issue

OP posts:
FreeGeorgeJackson · 02/12/2009 19:00

nickytwotimes · 02/12/2009 19:00

We do hosting turns.

It's worked fine so far (5 years).

Nine of us and we or the ILs are the hosts. Everyon brings part of the meal. Host does the smallest cooking job.

Restrainedrabbit · 02/12/2009 19:00

We have tried 'turns' but quite frankly his father is an arse so we prefer to be at home or at my mothers'.

nickytwotimes · 02/12/2009 19:01

God, not turns with presents, no!

Youngest up.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 02/12/2009 19:02

oh i got wrong end of stick. Last year Cornsilk, there was a debate about getting stuck in or having turns upening presents and spacing them out.

re: family meal. we have family who have moved closer to us. so we are taking turns. its no skin off my nose as my kids are older. My kids don't particularly like their own extended family ( they get on my tits a bit sometimes) so we will eat smile and fuck off and get pissed

FreeGeorgeJackson · 02/12/2009 19:02

Oh I remember that now custy. Wasn't it meant to be working class to get stuck in? We get stuck in but dh's parents always bring their pressies round for us to open in front of them and exchange.

FreeGeorgeJackson · 02/12/2009 19:06

ooh i htink it is uncontrolled to just rip it.
no no no
you need patience
last years ours all went off half way through to play and we left the rest till later and we dont exaactly go over board on gifts

we are though obv better peopel than you lot.

We always take turns opening presents-I like giving more than receiving and you miss it all if everyone is opening together.
Taking turns having family makes for difficulties-have both sides together.
