to bite my cheek at ds2's Judo teacher?

AIBU, I know

but last week I spent ages sewing on ds2's two badges (compulsory association ones, he's only just started so hasn't got any awards or anything)

it was like sewing through frickin shoe leather, my fingers were full of holes, but I persevered and sewed them on really thoroughly with hundreds of tight little stitches

arrived last week with him in his pristine new suit with the badges on and the trousers and sleeves turned up about 6 inches (he's 5 and tiny)

she said "Who did the sewing?" ds2 said "Mummy", she said "So it's Mummy I need to tell she's put the badges on the wrong way, the red one should be above the white one, not the other way round"

I was so I just gibbered "Oh, sorry, I'll change them"

put it off all week because it is going to be a PIG of a job to get the damn things off, never mind sew 'em back on again

and to my shame, I was going to do it last night and fell asleep at 8pm - work, kids, AS ds1 playing up because of Christmas departures from routine at school etc

so I had to walk in today with him in his suit with the bloody badges still on wrong

it's a long hall and she sits at a desk right at the other end of it from the door, so she gazed gimlet-eyed at the badges for several seconds before I actually managed to stammer "Sorry the badges are still wrong, I meant to do it yesterday but I fell asleep"

and his belt was tied wrong as well

I understand she's running a serious Judo club and things have to be right, but honestly, the fucking Freemasons would be less hassle

I'd be more tempted to bite hers than yours, tbh.

Never had no badges in my day...

Pikelit · 02/12/2009 17:57

At least the Freemasons would sort his accoutrements out for you and just send them home in a little suitcase that you weren't allowed to peek into.

Habbibu · 02/12/2009 17:58

She sits at a desk?! What weirdy form of judo is this - judo for interviewees?

JjandtheBean · 02/12/2009 17:58

my sisters class was the same, never ever again will i babysit that night, evil creature the way i was dressed down for tying that
ruddy belt wrong!

YANBU!

BethAndHerBrood · 02/12/2009 18:07

When DD got her judo suit, the badges were already on I think. Certainly don't remember having to sew anything on.

Not helpful I know, but don't often get to talk judo!

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 18:08

I have to leave work early to fetch him from afterschool club, run home with him, get him changed in 5 minutes and then run to the Judo club - all in the pissing rain - honestly, I do think IABU about the badges because I said I would do them again, but I felt so bloody dejected, it was like being back at school and sitting through assembly knowing you haven't done your Geography homework

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 18:33

she sits at a desk when they all arrive, so we can pay her and she can stamp their cards and all that

tis very intimidating when you know you have Got Something Wrong

I really really really really don't want to unpick the blasted badges and sew them on again

[cries]

OP posts:
BethAndHerBrood · 02/12/2009 18:39

Can you not just buy 2 more badges and sew them over the top?

Doesn't help on the sewing front, but saves unpicking.

Uriel · 02/12/2009 18:40

Glue them on!

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 18:41

but Beth, imagine if she noticed they were of the Wrong Thickness and realized my little trick??

god knows what she would do to me

OP posts:
ArizonaBarker · 02/12/2009 18:45

Don't do it.
Life is too short, it's not like he won't be able to do the throws because of it.

Just laugh and breezily say you'll do it for next week....every week.

BethAndHerBrood · 02/12/2009 18:47

Get DS2 to swap his jacket with someone whose badges are right??

I wouldn't care, but you obviously do. There is a badge in my sewing box, been there for months, should be on the judo suit. I'm not sewing it on now, DD is nearly ready for a new one!

santaschristmascakeywakey · 02/12/2009 18:49

Can you only do Judo then if the badges are on correctly? Do they confer some special kind of power? She needs to get over herself by the sounds of it.

I dare you next week to tell her that you were going to change them, then realised that life is too bloody short.

DaftApeth · 02/12/2009 19:10

Get him to turn upside down

pointydogg · 02/12/2009 19:14

Judo instructors are screwy. All of em.

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 19:25

cakeywakey I SO WISH I had the bollocks to say that!

DH reckons I should remove the entire patch of suit, turn it upside down and sew it back on

just to see the dawning horror on her face as we get near enough to the desk for her to twig that the badges are now upside down

I think my son gave up cubs because he was so embarassed at the crap sowing of his badges . There are more important things in life such as pissing about on Mumsnet.

ArizonaBarker · 02/12/2009 19:59

Send it to me, I like sewing.

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 20:01

where do you live Arizona?

I like sewing too, but this is not pleasant sewing, this is forcing a needle through horrible tough leathery stuff. I snapped a needle when I sewed them on the first time.

She's built like a brick shithouse though, I don't want to upset her

Greensleeves · 02/12/2009 20:05

I feel mean now she is actually very good and ds2 loves going

I just....it's a blardy nuisance and I wouldn't have done such a thorough job in the first place if I had known it would be me who would have to unpick the bloody things

crazycat34 · 03/12/2009 05:20

I love sewing on badges. Makes me proud (or sad with no life).

Tips -

a thimble

Unfortunately, the whole thing about martial arts is discipline and if you can't even get the badges right....

CarmenSanDiego · 03/12/2009 06:09

Oh, judo teachers are odd. I always thought mine was creepy as a child so I quit after a few weeks. Turns out he got arrested and jailed a few months ago now he's quite elderly because they found he'd been molesting kids through the 80s

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/12/2009 08:10

Buy a glue gun. Best tenner I've ever spent. My dd's brownie sash seems to have a length of cardboard in the middle. It was impossible to get her badges on without pricking my fingers and bending needles. Apart from her badges, I've used it to glue dh's shoes together.

Greensleeves · 03/12/2009 11:54

lol yes but crazycat it's my 5yo who is learning a martial art, not me

I am quite happy bumbling along WITHOUT military discipline

I have a glue gun! But surely that must be against the rules too?
