To expect my cleaner to...

AIBU to expect my cleaner to extrapolate that she should not wash DD's clothes in with the cleaning rags that have the nasty floor cleaning products on etcetera if I have asked her to ensure that DD's clothes are washed only with soapnuts or with the hypo-allergenic soap powder because of her eczma?

I know that mentioning a cleaner in AIBU could lead to flaming but I am curious to know if I am being unreasonable or not in being irritated by this!

YANBU in wanting the washing done as you want it done but I'm wondering why this isn't happening. I'm fussy about how the washing is done - if there are going to be any horrible, shrinking or pinking mistakes I'd rather take responsibility. But then it has never occurred to me to ask my cleaner to do the laundry.

But if the situation was different, I'd politely ask that clothes were sorted or I'd sort them myself. Wanting things done in a certain way isn't wrong if you are paying someone to do the job. Playing Laydee of the Bloomin' Manor in an attempt to address your preferences is always wrong. Not that I am suggesting you are doing so.

Thanks for the replies. I do try and do all the laundry myself but can't always clear every item before she arrives so obviously must try harder - sounds like my school reports .

Gosh I wish my cleaner did laundry

Goober · 02/12/2009 13:24

I am a cleaner.
I do laundry/ ironing etc.
I wouldn't dream of washing gak cloths with clothes.
Talk to her and explain how you did on here.

LynetteScavo · 02/12/2009 13:30

I would have a fit if anyone wahsed the DC's clothes with the cleaning cloths! - Be it DH, my mother or my imaginary cleaner.

Belive me they wouldn't do it again after I'd finished jumping up and down!

sunglasses · 02/12/2009 13:51

The nearest one of my cleaners got to my washing machine was that she scrubbed the front of it so hard it took off most of the writing indicating temp/ laundry settings etc so now there are several settings which are now no longer used cos we cant read what they are! I never asked her to do laundry either so it wasn't some revenge attack!
You are not being unreasonable- ask her to bag up all the cloths etc separately and then you can wash them all separately at your own convenience.

ErnestTheBavarian · 02/12/2009 14:20

can someone please tell me then how they wash their cleaning cloths, cos I have about half a dozen. If you don't put 'em in with clothes, do you do a separate wash just for a few cloths? Why is it so bad? I never thought anything of it but to just chuck 'em in the wash. Where do you draw the line? Dishcloths? tea towels?

Bonsoir · 02/12/2009 14:38

I wash my cleaning cloths at 90°, all together, once I have used them all up.

AIBU to be shocked at the amount of people who have cleaners?!!! God i wish i had a cleaner....

MisSalToeKisses · 02/12/2009 15:40

But thoroughlymodernmummy, a lot of people spend the same amount (that a weekly cleaner would cost) on, say, a couple of pints / wine at the pub. Depends what makes your life easier if you have the funds available at the time - neither one necessarily best.

MisSalToeKisses · 02/12/2009 15:43

(sorry, have obv been following thread, but just reading until now. )

On topic - if you agreed laundry duties with your cleaner, YANBU. My cleaner is absolutely lovely, but we're a little scared of her sometimes, as she tells us off! She's become a bit of a mother figure for us over the years. She's happy to do laundry if she has the time (and does it better than us).

LastTrainToNowhere · 02/12/2009 15:51

MisSal, my cleaner tells me off too
She keeps calling me into the bathroom to give me "tips" on how to clean the taps very quickly. She obviously wants to call me a slattern but doesn't dare I don't mind really....I AM a slattern

MisSalToeKisses · 02/12/2009 15:58

LastTrainToNowhere. My all time favourite tip from ours is to drink Vodca and black pepper straight when we have colds. I'm not one to disagree, so do willingly as told.

thoroughlymodernmummy · 02/12/2009 16:08

MisSalToesKisses , Wish i could afford the wine and beer weekly too!! Boo Hoo Sob Sob If my DH would agree i'd have one in a shot.
