OK I'm going to get flamed.
Have found out that I am being given a teapot for Christmas. I don't like or drink tea, and don't want a teapot. It's not even a novelty one!
AIBU to think ?

At least your Grandad is an equal opportunities unsolicited domestic present buyer

StealthPolarBear · 30/11/2009 15:45

ah but SGM presumably that was to 2 of them? and you do get household items as wedding presents

i love tea. I don't have a teapot for several good reasons

  1. i like my tea hot, as near boiling as possible. Only the first cup is ever really hot from a pot.

  2. if i get distracted from tea drinking, then everything after the first cup is deathly cold sludge.

  3. i realy really can't be faffed with cleaning the chuffing things

  4. if more than one person wants tea, then i a tea bag per cup. easy-peasy.
People use a teapot to skimp on bags. to me, this just results in weak tea.

My Mil keeps on offering to buy me a pot. i sooooo don't want one. At her house i try to make myself a cup with her out of the room otherwise she'll always make a pot (and ten mins later...i might get a cup of lukewarm weak tea with a whole pile of fuss attached...)

Not good if your caffeine addiction is as strong as mine.

TillyMintSpy · 30/11/2009 17:25

Get her one of those 'selection of teas' gifts

upahill · 30/11/2009 17:40

Well I think it´s kind of her as you mentioned that you could do with a new one.

But something personal as well would be nice!

WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 30/11/2009 18:02

count your blessing. we must all remember the poster who used to get elastic from her mil!

StealthPolarBear · 30/11/2009 18:17

that's true! My MIL is lovely really, if a little old fashioned (she's the one who complimented me on my busy life: FT job, 2 DCs, housework and HUSBAND). Off to warm his slippers now.

stealth, really you are a super mum!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 19:53

YABU to not drink tea .

What on EARTH do you do when someone is a little bit upset and needs a good old cheer-up and a cuppa ?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 19:56

BTW, will any of you other tea drinkers out there support me in my campaign to have separate Tea and Coffee queues in cafes. I am fed up with waiting ten minutes behind someone ordering 3 decaff skinny lattes with froth on top (or something.....)

cakeywakey · 30/11/2009 20:46

Jamie, the OP does have a teapot and will serve up tea - friends in need of cuppa will no doubt be well catered for.

I will support you for different queues in cafes though - it really narks me as well. Although, in my local cafe, if the staff stopped chatting and got their collective finger out, the queues wouldn't be so long anyway. If you work in a cafe and think I'm talking about you - I AM!

cakeywakey · 30/11/2009 20:50

Sorry SPB, realised I've just made lots of assumptions about your tea proffering policy! Jamie, I can see from earier posts that SPB has a teapot (albeit leaky) and that her DH drinks tea. So presumably tea would be on offer if someone was in need.

Am now off to stalk someone else

StealthPolarBear · 30/11/2009 20:53

Well I do make tea, in fact I made my husband one earlier, all part of the wifely duties. I make terrible tea though, so people onlyy tend to ask once

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 21:09

I Must read the whole thread ....

Stealth, my rule of thumb is - leave the tea to brew for as long as it takes to do a poo (assuming you are not a man ). I know you may think me a bit of a loon, but it works.

Of course, you do not actually do a poo, but if you do, please wash your hands ......

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 21:10

Der - meant to say "you do not actually have to do a poo"
