To think that if DS gets money for his birthday, he should be able to spend it on what he wants?

DS has been given a lot of money for his birthday fron various family and friends. He wants to buy a PSP+game that is on special offer -about £160. DH does not want him to buy it because the PSP is outdated and apparently a new game system is about to be launched to compete with the Wii.
I feel that it is his money to spend on what he wants (within reason - for instance we would not let him buy his own TV to have in his room. But that would affect the whole family).
So AIBU to want to let him buy the PSP even tho it may not be the 'best' thing to spend his money on?

Natal is also an add-on for an Xbox 360, so unless he has one of those already then £160 isn't going to be enough.

ViveLeCliche · 28/11/2009 19:13

Also the Natal is essentially a clever camera add-on to the Microsoft X-Box so DH probably pushing for him to get an X-Box now to add the camera to when it comes out....but who's to say Microsoft won't be crafty enough in the meantime to have to issue a new model X-Box with which the new camera works making all the old models defunct? Could then be a complete waste of DS's money...

Hold on though.

A PSP is a hand held console (have just asked DH) while this natal thing is a big console you keep in your living room.

The natal thing is a competitor for the Wii - and that "type" of game - not the PSP.

What I'm getting at is that if your DS wants to play "traditional" shoot em ups while out and about, this natal thing isn't going to be any
use to him however good it is.

Let him have what he wants I say

Echoing ViveLecliche - PSP is a portable, so no point waiting for Natal as is for Xbox and not portable. If he wants portable gaming get ipod touch/iphone.

groundhogs how does biscuit go with that comment then?

PrincessToadstool - it's not to do with the pubs, although I've been asked that a few times. It's sort of a combination of my fave colour and animal (technically I should be purpletortoise, but it doesn't have the same ring to it!)

hijack over

YANBU. Age 12 is old enough to learn how to handle one's own money and accept the consequences.

DH has stated his case. Fine. Now let DS do what he wants. FFS, we're not talking about hookers or crack here.

This argument is a recipe for a very rebellious teenage boy in a couple years.
