extortionate cupcakes

They're not even particularly special; they look as if my 6-year-old dd could have made them. And they haven't even used coloured cases.

AvadaKedavra · 28/11/2009 09:45

Yanbu, they don't look very nice at all. I use Bradford's the bakers in Glasgow and they are to dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for
www.bradfordsbakers.com/

bogie · 28/11/2009 09:45

PlumBumMum · 28/11/2009 09:45

I'll get dd2 to decorate some later I could charge £15 there is a credit crunch on did nobody tell them

PlumBumMum · 28/11/2009 09:47

Avada you should be banned from mumsnet posting such delicious and beatuiful things like that

PlumBumMum · 28/11/2009 09:47

Beautiful

PandaG · 28/11/2009 09:49

blimey - that is extortionate. Packing and postage factor in a certain amount, but that is just taking the michael!

AvadaKedavra · 28/11/2009 09:50

PBM lol I do apologise, if it's any consolation to you I just spent £30 on a giant cupcake

ZacharyQuack · 28/11/2009 10:34

YABU

It's not ridiculous to charge that much for cupcakes.

It is however, ridiculous to pay that much.

pigletmania · 28/11/2009 10:41

YANBU, they look like the ones i make and would probably charge about 10p a cake, bloody hell, sorry thats just madness, its like the lilly cole scarf for £140. Yes YABU if you pay for them. They do not look like they are anthing special, really something that a school child might bring home really.

warthog · 28/11/2009 10:42

don't buy them!

they won't be fresh and they don't look particularly special.

DanDruff · 28/11/2009 10:45

ooh that Bradfords website is BAD - theyu need to redeisgn

garciasangria · 28/11/2009 11:34

Oooh, the Bradfords cupcakes look gorgeous, but the first ones with the smarties and jelly diamonds on top...looks like what my kids do, whilst I bite my tongue, dying to say 'how about just a cherry on this one' as they merrily pile everthing on. Do people really pay 30 quid for these?

BouncingTurtle · 28/11/2009 11:37

Crikey I could have made ones as good as those. And I am crap!

Hmm.... would you buy 12 for £20?

I could start up yet another work from home business lol.

GentleOtter · 28/11/2009 11:39

Greggs cupcakes looking particularly fine this morning

famishedass · 28/11/2009 12:00

I think I'm gonna have to move to Glasgow after seeing that Bradfords website. I'VE JUSt posted it in my favourites. not to buy anything. Just to look at when I need cheering up.

pigletmania · 28/11/2009 12:08

I have put Bradfords up in my favourites, very good prices too might need them in the future

providentielle · 28/11/2009 13:04

Buy www.amazon.co.uk/Hummingbird-Bakery-Cookbook-Tarek-Malouf/dp/1845978307

It will be the best money you'll ever spend and will never buy another cupcake again!

3 people have bought this book after eating the cupcakes I have made from it and I'm not a great baker, these are so yummy and look stunning though.

Tidey · 28/11/2009 13:12

I was scandalised enough when my sister paid £20 for a loaf-sized fruit cake one Christmas, but £30 for fairy cakes?? Some people must be utterly insane.

lolapoppins · 28/11/2009 13:33

I have just made and decorted a batch way nicer than that for my dads over 60's group tonight. Sod it, I'm going to print out that page and charge them £60.

Aeschylus · 28/11/2009 13:42

if you are in North Norfolk area, at the Kings Lynn College, there is a SN class that do baking, they make the damn best cakes I have tasted and they charge £1.20 for 12 cakes

OtterInaSkoda · 28/11/2009 13:57

I do think YAB a little U.
OK so they're not cheap, but you're paying for the service. Imagine you had a friend who lived in another town and who'd been having a rough time for whatever reason. if you wanted to send her something to cheer her up, a box of cupcakes would be very thoughtful and no dearer than a bunch of flowers from Interflora. Admittedly they're fairly simple as cupcakes go, but that might be part of the charm for some people. I suppose you could make, package and send them yourself but that's by the by really.
Having said that, the Bradfords ones are cheaper I guess, but I think I prefer the dearer, less fussy ones.

SprocketAndTubbs · 28/11/2009 14:13

YANBU

But if I ever win the lottery, I want lifetime membership to Lolas....

Heaven!

cakewench · 28/11/2009 14:24

YANBU that's shocking!! They look like the sort you can pick up at the grocery store. sheesh.

shockers · 28/11/2009 14:31

They're in the "Not on the High Street" catalogue too.... recommended as a present for your cleaner!

missorinoco · 28/11/2009 14:39

I agree. Having received a copy of the catalogue through the post, I thought it should be renamed Not-On-The-Internet-Either-Much-Longer(-Especially-In-A-Recession).

It was the £30 gift for my cleaner that got me....., that and the £50 gift for my aunt they suggested.
