to be absolutely furious with my doctors surgery?

Trying to make this as short as possible, we have all (dh, i and dcs age 3 and 1) been ill for 5 weeks, i walked into drs 4 weeks ago and said we probably had giardiasis, dr didnt think so and after 4 weeks off faffing about with tests trying differnt meds etc, dr decided today it was giardiasis and has prescribed medicine. In this time we have really struggled with our previously good drs surgery, had huge problems getting appointements, dhs sick note was filled in incorrectly resulting in us not getting SSP and so no money as he has had a month off work, twice we have used their ring back service and no dr has called.

Last straw was today, i went in to collect prescription for abs happy it would soon be over, supposed to take 2 mins (said dr on phone) they couldnt find the prescription and i had to stand in waiting room for half an hour while they looked before receptionist vcame back and said the prescriptions had been sent to the chemist she was sorry the morning receoptionist had forgot to tell her. I said we didnt use the chemist in question and had not set up a 'prescription collection' service with them or given permission for them to collect our families prescriptions, at this point she got sarky and said that they saw it as a favour sending prescription to chemist. I then left as i was very cross and late as had expected this to be a quick thing, and had not bought a parking ticket (you get free parking for appointemnets).

The reason we dont use that chemist although it is closest to surgery is because they never have the medicine required. In the end ddh had to go there before they shut today (making him late) and they had already 'filled' the prescription so we couldnt get scripts back but as ever didnt have the drugs and so have given as a few doses but we will have to go back, as its four prescriptions prob multiple times.

AIBU to be furious and complain, i have already decided to swap dr surgery as 4 partners have left and it seems to be going to pot, but is it worth complaining?

Yes. Otherwise nobody will ever know why you left and nothing will get done.

Plumm · 27/11/2009 20:58

Yes, you should complain or it will never improve.

Brunettelady · 27/11/2009 21:19

Yes, some services need a kick up the ass and the only way to do that is to complain about receiving a crappy service.

mrmump · 27/11/2009 21:19

Complain to your PCT too.

Absolutely complain.

Start at the top and work down. Forward it to your PCT, the pharmacy chain and the local PALs group.

There are many issues here, and they all need sorting before they genuinely put someone into a truly untenable situation.

Oh, and, no - your GP should not have handed your script to the pharmacy without your consent (you may have a very legit reason for not wanting it filled there - family employee or some such!) and the pharmacy should not hve accepted and filled it without your consent.
