I've been trying to track to down the community midwife to set up a booking in appointment and arrange for scans. She hasn't contacted me since I confirmed the pregnancy at the GPs over a week ago and there is no facility to call her so I went to the antenatal clinic today.

Except the receptionist looked at me blankly and said there wasn't a clinic. When pushed she told me there normally was was but the midwife was on leave this week.
Fine.

She then went on to say that the midwife wouldn't be contacting me till week 10 or 11 as there was every chance of losing the baby before then

Now I know I'm hormonal but it rather upset me to hear it put like that.

AIBU or is that level of bluntness acceptable?

that's receptionists for you. If it makes you feel any better, I went to my GP when I was 4.5 weeks pg, and I'm now nearly 8 and haven't heard from community MW either. They do tend to leave it til around week 9 or 10 I was told by the GP incase MC happens before then.

How far along are you OP?

agree with others though, please write to your practice manager and let him/her know exactly what happened. It will be taken seriously and she will be spoken to.

OMG that is awful. Please, please complain so she can't do that to other women.

I feel a lot happier now, thanks. And I should say that when I went to the docs the first time it was a different receptionist who said Congratulations and gave me a big smile, so I know they're not all awful.

lovechoc - I'm 6wks. We've moved since I had my DD and at that practice I was seen pretty much straight away and had a scan at 10 weeks. I just thought it would be the same up here in Suffolk.

I know it seems like you are forgotten about but don't worry, a MW will come out and see you soon. It just seems like an age, doesn't it?! lol. Congratulations btw

I was a nice receptionist to!

The receptionist at my old doctors use to ask what 'the problem' was when you phoned up I used tell her it had nothing to do with her, but my ex said he 'had a sore dick' she was horrified!! Serves here right for asking!!!
