i've done as much justifying as i need to do piglet, since that isn't my site. as i said i value hand work because i understand what's involved, doesn't mean i have any expectations that other people will agree that these kind of skills deserve fair payment.

pigletmania · 26/11/2009 00:15

I dont think that my friends wife charges that much for her handknitted things

heartofgold · 26/11/2009 00:17

no, your friend's wife will not be earning minimum wage, people won't pay it.

(btw sorry for multiple posts!)

pigletmania · 26/11/2009 00:47

she does have a lot of business. Also on e bay there are e bay shops by people who handknit things and they so not charge nearly as much as this website, will be ordering from my friends wife or there not from this site. She does it as a hobby really not to live off as she is retired.

coralanne · 26/11/2009 01:18

They probably pay the grannies next to nothing. This is a story in itself relating to wage disparity. I wouldn't buy these things purely for this reason. If you want them, find a granny and show her a picture and she will make it for half the price. They should charge double what the wool cost. It's not cheap to knit if you buy good quality wool.

I've got a bit of a crush on Pat from Woking. "be faithful to one man at a time" Go Pat!

coralanne · 26/11/2009 04:59

Just had a look at the scarf. Couple of balls of wool and a couple of hours.Have made the same pattern many a time. Also made the same pattern in a pullover.

heartofgold · 26/11/2009 07:23

"they should charge double what the wool cost"

what brings you to this pricing model coralanne? by that reasoning my 7 hours of work on a baby hat would be "worth" about 2 or 3 pounds. surely no-one can think that's fair?

pigletmania · 26/11/2009 08:13

Well i would rather spend £68 on a lovely pair of shoes not a knitted bobble hat that i could get my friend or mum to knit, or go to a charity shop there are plenty of handknitted things that people do not want.

pigletmania · 26/11/2009 08:17

oh and i have just scoured e bay and have found a coupld of ladies who have online shops selling their hand knitted clothes for a fraction of the price of this overpriced website so look there if you want a lovely hand knitted scarf or hat if you dont have anyone to knit for you. I think one shop is called Elaine. Still waiting to hear bck from my friend regarding the name of her online shop as i cant remember.

pigletmania · 26/11/2009 10:12

My friends website for handknitted things by herself is cosybabies.co.uk

give them a try, far cheaper than this site.

pigletmania · 26/11/2009 10:14

site address is www.cosybabys.co.uk/

JokingAside · 27/11/2009 01:43

Thanks pigletmania. Will have a look
