well done for letting him stay, enjoy the room when he's gone, you are a good sil.

YANBU to be pleased when he's gone - DH and I had DH's best friend living with us in London for 5 weeks a couple of years ago as we had a spare room and he had no money for rent. We had to lend him his first month's wages too as he was skint (he did repay it as soon as he was able to). He was no trouble, he didn't impinge on us very much at all and he had his own room but it was still lovely when he moved out - we could walk nude from the bedroom to the bathroom, go to the loo with the door open so as to continue conversation with the other person in the living room and generally lower our standards of behaviour to their usual poor level. Bliss.

yanbu to be pleased, you have put up with it for a couple of weeks and does not sound ideal so don't have to feel bad for that at all

emsyj you could be me - we do all these things

yanbu to be pleased, and it was very good of you to let him stay.
We were on the other end recently and had to stay at my parents for 2 weeks when we were moving. I found it a nightmare so i can only imagine how they felt.

YA soooooo NBU !!!! And I completely sympathise. Agreed with my DH that my BIL could stay for a few weeks whilst he sorted out a place to live and he ended up staying over 3 months!!
My DD was 5mths when he moved in so we were still getting to grips with being parents. BIL kept saying he felt like he was imposing and was looking for somewhere to rent. Well the lack of progress would have been quite impressive if it hadn't been so annoying! Plus he obviously thought he didn't have to lift a finger in the house as I'm on maternity leave so had plenty of time to look after DH, DD and him!!!
In the end I told my DH enough was enough and that we needed our own space and finally he moved into MIL's house, but even that took over a week from when he first said he would to actually doing so!

Just wanted to say am v sorry for my rant on your post re my BIL. You have handled having your BIL stay so much better than me - I could learn a lot!!
