AIBU to cancel dd's swimming this year because I'm having a major wobbly about her catching swine flu?

What do you think? Do I need to get a grip?

Starting to get really freaked out about this now that one of dd's friends is very very ill with SF and my father suggested cancelling as many of her activities as possible. I am a bit worried that swimming in a pool that is also open to the general public is not a good idea right now but I am just unsure about it. Presuming no one who has the virus will feel like swimming but still...

I have to make a decision about it tomorrow or pay until June.

Surely swine flu is going to be around for ever..one would have to live in isolation to avoid catching it. I think one either has to accept ones child will get it and hope they will not suffer too badly or if one is too worried about them getting it, get the vaccination.

The dilemma I have is what is the greatest risk my child getting swine flu or having the jab and having a bad reaction to it.

I think it is normal to be worried about swine flu but I don't know if OP stopping swimming would make much difference ...

no, I don't know either unfortunately, and I also don't know about the vaccination. I am concerned now though since dd's friend who has no underlying heath problems at all is in hospital struggling with every breath and it is very worrying.

I am taking some precautions re SF generally - sort of thing everyone is being told to do and I am avoiding as much as possible big public gatherings etc. I think for my own peace of mind, even if I sound like a loon, I will drop the swimming and maybe another activity for the winter. It may make no real difference but gives me a better feeling IYSWIM?

Look, if it makes you feel better then stop them. At the end of the day, missing a few lessons won't do your dd any harm, it's not long now until the end of term.

Very sorry to hear about your dds freind, poor mite, hope s/he recovers well.

I hope so too, her mum is frantic with worry as you can imagine. Horrible to watch your dc struggle to breathe.

Well thanks everyone again. Have to go now , will read the thread again in the morning and have another think.
