That's it really. Colleague thinks she has swine flu and knows that I am pregnant

YABU! If colleague thinks she has SF she should be at home - not spreadng the infection to her colleagues, regardless of pgcy or otherwise. Very very BU of her.

Or else she's just got a bad cold and is a drama queen.

ShannaraTiger · 24/11/2009 10:22

YANBU she should be at home keeping the SW contained!

ShannaraTiger · 24/11/2009 10:23

Even SF, sorry I'm running a temperature, hoping not SF!

PrettyCandles · 24/11/2009 10:24

Eeeek! I meant YANBU of course. Was so outraged at the YABU-ness of the sickly colleauge that I got tangled up.

Lulumama · 24/11/2009 10:25

if she had swine flu or regular flu, it is unlikely she'd be able to drag herself out of bed and into work, so it's probably not swine flu

E45 · 24/11/2009 10:25

If she had Swine Flu, she would not be in work. I had to be helped to and from the bathroom for two days. I could not have gone into work.

edam · 24/11/2009 10:26

Of course YABU, steer well clear of her and any surface she has touched/sneezed on if you can. Which is impossible, hence she should be at home.

Could you have a word with your boss?

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 24/11/2009 10:28

YANBU, I would be annoyed and worried if I was you.

mears · 24/11/2009 10:34

If she is able to be at work then it is unlikely to be SF.
Totlayy agree that it is out of order to be at work if she truly thinks that is what she is going down with and I would tell her that.

alypaly · 24/11/2009 10:42

why do people say they have flu when they are able to get out of bed. Having had real flu and pneumonia...the last thing i could have done was to go to get out of bed,let alone go to work....people use the word flu when they have a bad cold...bah!

theGreatPumpkin · 24/11/2009 10:54

I had SF a few weeks ago (am 37 wks pg), I couldn't get out of bed for 2 days and there was no way I could have gone to work. My DH had to take time off to look after me and our DS. So YANBU, but like everyone else I don't think she can have flu if she can get to work.

louii · 24/11/2009 10:55

I would complain to whoever is in charge and go home.

Glitterknickaz · 24/11/2009 10:59

If it was Swine Flu there is no way in hell they'd make it to work.
They wouldn't even make it out of bed.

morningpaper · 24/11/2009 11:01

She is being a drama queen. Just ignore her.

hormonalmum · 24/11/2009 11:14

I have had "normal" flu a couple of times and like many comments, I could barely move never mind make it into work.
Spoke to boss, he said I can work at home if I wanted. He has left it up to me to decide what to do. As my children are at school / childminder, wonder what to do???
Another colleague has just told me her daughter is pregnant (very early) and is worried too.

morningpaper · 24/11/2009 11:16

There are no guarantees that you can avoid it, really. 1/4 of my DD's school is current off with "swine flu" - there is no way most of us can avoid it, pregnant or not. Parents are bringing children with SF into school (prone in buggies) to pick up siblings because they have no choice.

cory · 24/11/2009 11:17

Drama queen, she's got the sniffles no doubt.

But your boss is being very good, and I would take him up on that.

Bubbaluv · 24/11/2009 11:20

I'm getting the feeling you don't actually think she has swine flu?
If I was pregnant and a colleague told me they thought they had swine flu I would tell them in no uncertain terms that it was totally unacceptable for them to be putting me and my child at risk in this way.
Diplomacy would not be front of my mind if I really felt someone was threatening my baby.

hormonalmum · 24/11/2009 11:23

Mp - I completely agree that it cannot be avoided and of course noone has any way of knowing who has been in contact with whom etc.
I am just annoyed with colleague who could decrease the spread (and not just to me)

hormonalmum · 24/11/2009 11:27

I am not sure if she has it or not as she is ill quite a lot. She was not in work yesterday as she said she had sickness. Perhaps she is just a drama queen.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 24/11/2009 11:28

If she is at work thinking she has swine flu, she most likely hasn't.

WallyDoodle · 24/11/2009 13:45

I have had normal flu twice and couldn't get out of bed but when I had swine flu (confirmed, work in medical field) I really only felt it when I exerted myself and I was completely able to work (although from home as wasn't allowed to go in). I didn't take Tamiflu or anything. DH was the same, although he took one day off. It affects everyone differently and some people will feel okay, although most of them will think "there's no way this is swine flu" and carry on as if it is a bad cold, so they don't get represented.

YANBU though, is there any way you could work from home for a couple of days?
