hes 4 in reception and likes his uniform. one day this week they had to wear all blue for anti bullying or something. Then on Friday it was children in need so wear a costume representing a different country.I have a younger child, a job to go to and DS gets confused about not wearing his uniform. I have tried not to be a miserable old cow and dressed him according to the requests but frankly it drives me mad. do they think we have nothing better to do than scour primark for costumes for boys? Every week?!

Our school does a "wear something red" (or whatever colour) day, which is far more manageable, as you can just do red socks/hair bobble or whatever. Much easier all round than a non-uniform day at infant school I think

If he likes his uniform, send him in wearing that. These dress up days aren't obligatory and can be a pain in the arse. We were supposed to wear Pyjamas at the school where I work on friday, ds did but oh ,what a shame I 'forgot'.

We had "wear something colourful" for Children in Need, then next week "Wild West". I have no time, inclination or money to sort out costumes. Boy has jeans and checked shirt, that'll do.

Am slightly worried about nativity. I know it's coming, but don't know what the costume will be yet. They'd better give me more than a couple of days notice or he'll be wearing uniform for that too.

Go minimalist. Buy in a big range of stickers and use them - different colours, different foods, character stickers from children's magazines (for World Book Day) etc. If your ds likes wearing his uniform I don't see any reason why he shouldn't tbh - if they think wearing other things is so great, why have they got a uniform at all??

They had a 'wear something spotty' day at my 2 dss nursery on friday for children in need. Thankfully my 2 don't go on a friday as i don't work then as I would have been stuffed. How many spotty boys clothes have you ever seen?! Plenty for girls but never seen any for boys!

Although choosyfloosy thanks to your last post i will be sorted if they do this again - just get a load of small round stickers and cover them!

Yes schools do assume we will be glad to rustle up a costume of their choice with 48 hours notice or sooner. I've got to the stage where if they don't give me at least a week's notice I don't feel guilty about ignoring it. But its not as bad as the forgotten impromtu harvest festival /Eid /Diwali celebrations that they put on and expect you to attend with 48/24 hours notice!

I also wish schools would plan their events better- 2 mufti days/charity events in a half term are not on!!!

We has wear Red, White or Blue for Europe day (ds class were doing England)

On Friday they all (including staff) went to school in their Pyjamas, it was a huge sucsess and parents didn't have to rush about hunting out costumes ect.

YABU
Dressing up and not wearing uniform is fun, and it is an excellent way of raising money for charity.
If your DS gets confused, then try explaining to him.
