AIBU to expect replies to a thread rather than just relating your own situation. Example. MIL giving gifts. No responses what to do about it but just everyone jumping on the bandwagon with their own MIL story. Do we really need 20 pages of thread to solve this problem. Just say "MIL please we are trying to save the environment bu not buying any unnecessary things"

You can't dictate what people say on a thread - it's a public forum and we can reply as we choose, as long as we are not being abusive or breaking the site rules.

When having a conversation with friends, do you dictate how the conversation will go, and tell people off if their contributions do not follow your guidelines? I certainly don't.

2shoes · 19/11/2009 22:04

yabu

scottishmummy · 19/11/2009 22:06

nope, you cant tell posters how to reply,or what to say.anyway the ensuing 20 page meandering is usually fun. as folk relate their my mil is a hairy handed munter who never does anything i want

southeastastra · 19/11/2009 22:06

but that's what mn is about! it's good to just get it all out sometimes

AgentZigzag · 19/11/2009 22:08

It's funny you should say that, because when I posted a thread last week...

YABU, it's a chat forum, if you don't like the answers, don't post?

Marioandluigi · 19/11/2009 22:11

People are just letting you know that they can realte to your problem, also, if they cant sort out thier own situation how are they going to be able to help you with yours

YABU and a little whiny!

scottishmummy · 19/11/2009 22:14

imagine how perfunctory mn would be if folk only promptly answered question

how dull

and no humphy faces

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 19/11/2009 22:17

I had a thread recently where this happened. Everything I said was ignored and people just posted their own experience. Ho hum.

Portofino · 19/11/2009 22:19

YABU! I'm crap at giving advice but don't have enough people to talk to, so always wwlcome the opportunity to bring up a boring relevant nugget from my own life. That's why I come on here!

MamaLazarou · 19/11/2009 22:22

YABU, bossy boots.

piscesmoon · 19/11/2009 22:23

YABU -you can't control a way that a thread will go, or who replies.

busybutterfly · 19/11/2009 22:24

YABU.

Now let me tell you a little story about me...

bellavita · 19/11/2009 22:26

YABU! >

Ronaldinhio · 19/11/2009 22:26

i was just thinking about all the times when I've felt the same way about threads and my frustration

AgentZigzag · 19/11/2009 22:27

Actually, what's happened to other people are the best bits of the threads, the OP might be after advice, but I'm after the juicy bits lol

scottishmummy · 19/11/2009 22:27

some threads are better ignored and the digression outwits the op

coralanne · 19/11/2009 22:51

Point taken. Maybe I'm just having a dull boring day{grin} and yesterday spent 2 hours with a friend listening to FIG jam from her and not getting a word in edgeways. Not that she would listen anyway.

coralanne · 19/11/2009 22:53

I think yanbu, I don't like the way I do it so much myself (and have got 3 Is and 1 myself in that little sentence already)

Stayingsunnygirl · 19/11/2009 22:58

You used the squiggly brackets{}, not the square ones[] - hence the lack of grin.

coralanne · 19/11/2009 23:20

Thanks sunnygirl You have brightened my day

It's nice to be useful, coralanne. Especially when being useful doesn't involve getting up from the pc and leaving mumsnet.

Jem27 · 20/11/2009 09:15

I agree with you, once I started a thread about fudge and how much I liked it and then everyone replied about how they like fudge too and that was so unfair because I just wanted to see what everyone thought about me liking fudge.

Do you see what I did there

MintyCane · 20/11/2009 09:28

YABU this is not a public service website
