to think that the next kids competition is a horrible way to teach children that in order to win you have to be more popular than everyone else?

I'm sure we've all seen the links, "please vote for my child" both on here and on facebook.

There are something like 17000 entrants into this competition, and only the top 100 will go through to the next round. It is decided on votes alone, and it is even possible to vote more than once.

So the lesson this is surely sending out to kids is that in order to get to the top 100 you have to earn the most votes, regardless of whether you're actually the best person in the competition.

I hate it.

It's always the same though, my son won a prize at school for selling the most Christmas cards that he designed..... truth was we had mugs made for Christmas presents. I thought the prize should have gone to the best picture, which he still would have won.

agree....whatever happened to a panel of judges?

Posie I must be being really slow today, I don't understand your post at all!

It won't be the winning child who is the most popular it will be the child of the most popular parents. I only have 17 fb friends (nearly all relatives)so we wouldn't have a chance of winning!

I'm not overly keen on the modelling lark and baby competitions. When ds was a baby we had some photos taken by a professional photographer, he suggested that we contact a modelling agency as he thought that ds had a marketable look. Family members were surprised that we declined the offer, I just didn't feel comfortable in profiting from something that you have no control over. A sweet angelic child won't necessarily transform into a handsome young man, I want ds to be rewarded for his efforts and talents, not his looks which is something he has no control over.

I'm probably taking it far too seriously and I'm sure it is harmless fun, just not our cup of tea.

It's a popularity or big family thing, whoever can get the most votes or cash whatever.....

sorry I did post mid thought!

It's entirely realistic about how the rest of their life is going to be, TBH.
