To think its a bit bloody off to send your kid to play at someone elses house armed with poster paints and crafty bloody sponges

Dd had friend to play after school (both ages 7) with the idea that they bog off and play involving minimum input from me.

Lo and behold her mate produces a bag of pots of poster paints and sponges and asks if they can do painting. wtf! Sodding paint and wet items everywhere. I hate crafty stuff like this at the best of times but couldn't very well say no since she'd bought them with her.

If my daughter asked to take paints to a mates house I'd think about the poor bloody parent and say no.

AIBU? Who here would be chuffed with this, honestly ?

YANBU - arm dd with glitter for her visit.

ravenAK · 17/11/2009 21:24

I would say no. Your gaff, your rules.

GentleOtter · 17/11/2009 21:26

YANBU but perhaps the little girl sneaked the poster paints into her bag without her mum knowing.

homicidalmummymaniac · 17/11/2009 21:28

just say no.
tell the little girl you did painting yesterday - what a shame!

TurkeyLurkey · 17/11/2009 21:30

I would have looked like a mean cow bag mummy had I said no though wouldn't I. They were in a massive see through plastic bag carried seperately from her reading folder, her mum is arty type who probably thought it was a fab idea. I went cold when I saw them.

See, I'd regard that as a wonderful opportunity to study aboriginal art designs and send her back with an entire body paint job.

defineme · 17/11/2009 21:31

That's hilarious! YANBU

madmissy · 17/11/2009 21:33

haha how funny!

ahem YANBU

LynetteScavo · 17/11/2009 21:34

YANBU.

You need to take revenge...glitter and glue seem too harmless.

Loud trumpets/recorders for them to play? That should annoy the arty mum.

juuule · 17/11/2009 21:34

Sorry. YANBU.

GentleOtter · 17/11/2009 21:35

pack moon sand when your dd goes to play at cow bag mummy's house.

TurkeyLurkey · 17/11/2009 21:36

oh yes moon sand

ChickandDuck · 17/11/2009 21:39

YAB a bit U. It's only a bit of paint

TurkeyLurkey · 17/11/2009 21:40

otter - its me thats the cow bag!

OP posts:
GentleOtter · 17/11/2009 21:42

I thought poster paint packing mama was the cow bag....

verytellytubby · 17/11/2009 21:42

YANBU. LOL at sending moonsand (the work of the devil).

TsarChasm · 17/11/2009 21:44

Blimey yanbu!

Glitter next time? No no...hang on I've got a bag of plaster of paris here and a modelling kit dd was 'thoughtfully' () given. Lets hope they don't accidentally tip some down the sink

I am def of the 'bog off and play/minimum effort' brigade when it comes to friends round.

TurkeyLurkey · 17/11/2009 21:45

Yes it is only paint - but I have to be in the mood to get paints out, I do seem to be short on patience where paints are concerned. Its the whole faff of the bloody thing, spreading newspaper out, water, aprons, paper, not getting house covered in paint. The supervising. The whole point of having a mate round is so they go and play whilst I come on here cook a wholesome tea.

TsarChasm · 17/11/2009 21:47

Or or... FLOAM!

Floam was made for sharing

Even my long suffering mum ('they're only children let them do what they want'} admitted defeat with floam.

verytellytubby · 17/11/2009 21:47

Plus the whole point of a playdate is the mimimum interaction with the kids.

TurkeyLurkey · 17/11/2009 21:49

Get with it Otter - I am mean cow bag for hating doing painting with said paints and friends mum is arty lentil weaving type.

Oooh plaster of paris - now we're talking - do you remember Shaker Makers? Now that would be a good one to send my DD round with.

midnightexpress · 17/11/2009 21:49

Oh god no yanbu. DP has a habit of setting the DCs up doing painting and then wandering off, leaving me to corrall a just 4 and nearly 3 y-o and tidy up the aftermath. If you were my FB friend you could see the terrible results.

I think you should send your DD round with an enormous bag of Haribo and a 2l bottle of COke, or something equally likely to make them walk up the walls, or perhaps a highly unsuitable DVD.

midnightexpress · 17/11/2009 21:50

WTF is floam?

TheCrackFox · 17/11/2009 21:50

YANBU

Send her over with one of those craft kits that can only be really done by an adult - like candle making.

What a cheek!

midnightexpress · 17/11/2009 21:51

Perhaps you could get her one of those choc coin makers they are going on about on the other thread.
