Spent a fortune on really nice chocolate to make cakes for Pudsey...

Put a bit of milk in the pan, a dollop of butter and melted chocolate.... added the crispies and dd stirred like mad.

Obviously got the recipe wrong - bl**dy disaster! nothing stuck.!!!

Now got a pan full of what tastes like coca powder and crispies - aibu to put a bit of milk on the mess tomorrow morning and try to pass them off as coco - pops?

(or even is there any way to save them, or any other suggestions of what to do with them?)

i've fucked up crispie cakes before too. i have every sympathy.
why dont you eat it all yourself tonight with a cup of tea to cheer yourself up?

CLOVER81 · 16/11/2009 20:01

why did you put milk in it? i always just use choccy and rice crispies lol :D give them the coc pops ;) they will think u are best mum ever lol

Thanks reality - you are soooo right ... this is a regular event f**king up good expensive ingredients with my usual plan of not following any recipe (too impatient!) Just jolly well making it up as we go along.

Jane Asher has noting to worry about!

Milk was the point when it started to look like moose before turning back into cocoa powder.

Milk is a interesting addition

Melt some chocolate and stir in rice crispies. Crispy cakes. Done.

And yes, give them to the kids for breakfast. They will be too shocked to argue.

cocolepew · 16/11/2009 20:04

Milk?! Butter!? Are you mad woman? Chocolate and Rice Krispies that's all you need. Enough of this airy fairy stuff.

littlemoominmamma · 16/11/2009 20:06

Yes! allaboutme im not alone . The plan with the milk was to prevent it sticking to the pan as the butter was not working. - Doh!

LOLOL at burnt water and undercooked lettuce

zisforzebra · 16/11/2009 20:11

You're not alone. I can make choux buns, baked cheesecakes etc with no problem but I can't make chocolate crispies to save my life.

Serve them for breakfast, they'll be fine.

littlemoominmamma · 16/11/2009 20:11

They actually taste rather good - a bit like luxury breakfast cereal although the crispies are going a bit soggy (butter?) so they may not last till morning.

Maybe sieve off the chocolate and put crispies back in box?

zisforzebra - if you can make choux buns forget making the chocolate crispies!!! there is no need (at this point there should be a smiley with its tounge hanging out!!)

melt chocolate. take off heat. stir in crispies. place in cake cases. done.

Melt the choc in a glass bowl sitting in a pan of boiling water (bottom of bowl not touching water). That way, there is no need to worry about anything sticking.

flakey cakey (with cornflakes) doesn't even have to be in separate cases, just one shallow pyrex dish/cake tin. Try it with a Mars Bar or other types of choc. My fave is Mint Aero flakey cakey

But, yes, feed it to the kids, but only if you won't have them when they are coming down from the early morning sugar rush!

Shoshe · 16/11/2009 21:25

Best way,

  • 3 cups Rice Krispies
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter/marg
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder to the syrup

Put syrup, sugar, cocoa and butter/marg into a pan, melt and bring to the boil for 1 min (stirring).
Remove from heat, add essence and Krispies.
Mix well and pour into a greased 7" square tin. Mark into squares and remove from the tin when cold.
Alternatively, divide mixture between 12 cake cases in a bun tin.
Put in the fridge to set.
