To think I am really out of touch?

I appreciate a large number of Mumsnetters probably work and I do not judge them. I, however, made the decision not to go back to work until my children are at school for a variey of personal reasons and on the back of stuff I had read.

I have noticed a lot of quite negative stuff recently on here about mothers that don't work. In this thread, one poster says to approach people to help with the PTA if they pick their children up from school, 'they are probably the ones that have time'.

Whe n I had two at home, I would sometimes get to 3pm and realise that I had had neither breakfast nor lunch by the time I had sorted them, toddlers, other social stuff for them, food allergies, potty training etc. I wonder if there has been a subtle shift in how SAHMs are regarded (or maybe have always been regarded and I have just not been aware). I wouldn't dare judge someone who has returned to work, so why is it OK to judge someone who, for whatever reason, has decided not to?

Did you really forget to eat? Why did it not affect me like that? I just watched a lot of daytime tv, and still couldn't be arsed joining the PTA.

I forget to eat some mornings.

You really can't live your life worrying about how other people judge you. There is a lot of negativity about SAHMs and WOHMs.

So long as you are happy with your life then you don't have to justify yourself to anyone.

I really don't give a shit what other people think about my choices. It is liberating.

I think it is annoying though when you are trying to rally some help and aupport for the PTA that it is always the same faces that turn out every event.
Yes as a SAHM I am busy with a younger child and their social life and at times I have not had alternative childcare for him so have not been able to help out much but when I am able I do try to when I can but there are some out there that just cannot be arsed to help out but are happy to reap the rewards of subsidised school trips, and whatever else (speaking of ours pesonally)the PTA contribute financially towards for the pupils.

Some days when I was at home I would have loads to do and others I would have very little. I can see what the comment was implying and I really don't think it's anything to get hett up about...

...unless you have too much time on your hands

I agree with the first child i did have a lot of "spare" time however the 2nd came along quite quickly and put an end to that.
