To want to buy my food shopping online?

DP thinks I am.

We live right across the road from a supermarket so fair enough. But I have a free voucher for delivery, there is a delivery slot tomorrow, we have both been ill this week and it is pouring with rain outside. We also live up five flights of stairs and there are lots of things I want to get.

I am perfectly happy for someone to tell me I am being unreasonable but I just don't see what the issue is.

Thanks!

Not unreasonable I hate going to supermarkets!

Wineonafridaynight · 14/11/2009 14:01

Thanks Fernie! He is acting like I have gone crazy! He hates supermarkets. He has says he will go and do the shopping but he will come back with pizza, chicken kievs, waffles, crisps, coca cola and biscuits. Not that I have any problem with that, just I would quite like the more nutritious and practical things too!

Free delivery....get ordering!

Mybox · 14/11/2009 14:09

Do your order - get all your heavy things

nomoralfibre · 14/11/2009 14:12

definitely go for it!

malovitt · 14/11/2009 14:21

Check they will carry your stuff upstairs - I'm on third floor and Tesco's delivery guy made a real song and dance about bringing it up.

His manager eventually came round for an inspection and said they would bring shopping up to the third floor with no lift, but no higher.

Wineonafridaynight · 14/11/2009 14:50

Glad I'm not being unreasonable! It has ended up in the most ridiculous argument ever now and I still don't have my shopping!

Apparently it's embaressing that I want to order our shopping when we live so close to a supermarket! This is someone who never cares what others think so it seems like a very poor reason!

Thanks for the tip Malovitt. I will check. I ordered from another supermarket before (I got the same response from DP) and they brought it up but will be sure to check just in case.

yanbu - I've been doing this for several years now, much more civilised.

PeedOffWithNits · 14/11/2009 15:31

YANBU - it may not even be delivered from the store near you - my nearest tesco is 4-5 miles away but the deliveries come from a depot 25 miles away, nearest adsa is 6 miles away, but deliveries are from store 15 miles away, which is bigger so more choice than instore

MrsMorgan · 14/11/2009 15:34

YANBU

I recently learnt to drive and was so looking forward to being able to do my own food shopping. I lasted about 3 weeks before I switched back to ordering online.

I spend way too much if I actually go into the store.

TimeForMe · 14/11/2009 15:39

YANBU, surely you don't need your DH permission for this? Just get ordering and leave him to sulk!

Bunnysoprano · 14/11/2009 15:44

YA definitely not BU. I have just discovered a whole new world of pain going to Waitrose this afternoon rather than getting Ocado to deliver. Awful and never again!

Rueben2 · 14/11/2009 15:44

Give him your shopping list and tell him to go to the supermarket and do it himself.

If he doesn't want to then get ordering!!!

mosschops30 · 14/11/2009 16:00

We live within a 10 minute walk to our supermarket and about a 1 minute drive.

I have my shopping delieverd every week because we both hate food shopping, its a complete waste of an hour IMHO.
I couldnt care less whether the neighbours think Im lazy, I love it plus I save money every week because I just buy what I need

brandonsflower · 14/11/2009 16:07

NU at all, I live behind a supermarket and hate going in, so I have mine delivered- it works out cheaper mostly anyway because I don't have DS wanting everything, and I don't forget anything then have to repeat the whole tantruming trauma again!

brandonsflower · 14/11/2009 16:09

Meant to add, if you're having Tesco deliver, I just used code XXCATS for £10 off £50- see far more sensible, they don't pay you for going in!

Wineonafridaynight · 14/11/2009 21:54

lol...just refound this thread!

TimeforMe: No - don't need his permission. The whole stupid situation came about because I asked him if there was anything he wanted adding. Trust me - next time he won't be asked and will get what he is given!

Rueben: He kept offering. I don't know why I didn't just take him up on it! I just don't trust him to actually pick up half the stuff I want. I'm sure he would try but he would get frustrated and give up!

As it happened I ended up giving in because we got into the most ridiculous argument ever over it. It seemed very silly to be sitting in silence not speaking to each other over the supermarket shop!

So I gave in on the agreement that he would carry all shopping up the stairs and would not get stressed out as soon as we walk through the door and want to leave, therefore meaning we don't get anything we need! It worked. The supermarket trip went well and I got dinner cooked for me after so I was happy!

But in future I won't ask him if he wants anything and will just order! Never make the same mistake twice!

Thanks Brandonsflower - I will note that down for when I'm ordering my online shopping in a fortnight!

YANBU at all, I once apologised to the ASDA delivery man for "having to come out in the pouring rain". He laughed at me and said that he loves doing the deliveries and on the days when there aren't many to do, he has to work in the warehouse which he hates. Since then I've discarded any guilt I may have had about online shopping!
Plus I love seeing what delightful items turn up unexpectedly when I haven't looked closely enough at the tiny pictures when ordering (fridge full of fresh pasta that I'd thought was dry etc etc ).

PS Brandonsflower I'm suspecting the inspiration behind your nickname and DS's name are not a million miles apart .....

RockBird · 15/11/2009 08:23

The point of online shopping is to avoid the hell of the inside of a supermarket isn't it it? So it doesn't matter if you live 30 miles away or in a flat above the freezer aisle. Next time don't ask him and he gets what he's given!

brightwell · 15/11/2009 08:25

I do my shopping online everyweek, I live a 5 min drive from the supermarket and I drive past it on my way home from work. For me the cost of delivery buys me an hour where I can do something else...cook dinner, go to the gym or do the ironing. I'm a busy lone parent & time is precious.

pigletmania · 15/11/2009 09:05

I loooooove online shopping it is a godsend i tell you, the £3.50 delivery charge is nothing compared to taking your toddler to a busy supermarket, trying to entertain them whilst doing your shopping, the queues for paying and packing it all up and having dh moaning that i am buying too much, i would have to take him as i dont drive a car. No no no online shopping is a saviour. Plus it saves money because i just stick to what i need, in a supermarket i always walk out with more than i need.

stressheaderic · 15/11/2009 09:22

Another fan here - I do mine every fortnight online but always make sure I get the heavy stuff that week, drinks, washing powder, multipacks of stuff.
I don't mind the actual shopping that much - it's the bagpacking, carrying to car, unloading and carrying it all to the house (we have to park around the side on the road) I can't stand, esp in this weather.

And our Asda delivery man is lovely, says he loves the job and we always have a little chat.
