to not want to become a parcel depot AGAIN!

In our old road I would be taking in parcels several times a week for neighbours in the (long) run up to Xmas. Only our immediate neighbour (who was usually in anyway) would collect fairly quickly. The rest would have to be delivered to the various porches by my husband on Saturdays. One week our dining room genuinely looked like a parcel depot and was unusable.

We have moved recently and it's starting again. This week we've had one parcel for someone across the road (took 3 days and no apology to collect) and I took one in for next door which DH has just dumped outside their rain-drenched door.

I think I take them in a) to be neighbourly but also b) I'd like to think someone would do the same for me but clearly I am the only one at home during the day around here.

So, should I just decline to take in parcels and if I do take them how long should I wait before leaving them in the rain?

Bizarrely, the parcel is still outside next door's house - they've walked over/around it 3 or 4 times now. DH actually left it right on their door step.

i love it
but ask the man to put a card in saying it wil be sent back after 24 hours

then you get it collected and he gets his money

but tbh if you cant say no

We try to get delivery dates when we order things, but often it's impossible. It's such a pain in the arse because we feel as though we are putting on our neighbours when things are delivered next door, although they don't complain, and seem happy to take things in for us. Just recently we have ordered quite a few things, and its embarassing to have to go knocking on the neighbour's door every other day!

The annoying thing is that I only work a four day week, so I can easily go and pick things up from the post office one day in the week, but the postie always drops next door, whether we want him to or not!

We order tons of stuff from the internet, and with Christmas coming, I don't really know what to do. Some places allow you to put a comment on the label re.delivery, but Royal Mail don't seem to. I think I will have to take round a big box of chocolates soon and beg forgiveness!

I think the post should wake up to this and either do evening deliveries, or have the returns depot open at more helpful hours.

Soory, I meant to start by saying that the OP should perhaps just refuse to take delivery.

The postman will soon catch on, so that should reduce the number of times she is asked to do it.

Also, I always take things in for other folk if they come round on my day off, so it's not just a one way street!

I've taken to adding on anything I order in the special instructions part, to not leave any parcels with neighbours after my new TV from Tesco got delivered to my dodgy ndn and no card left here, only found out when I rang to ask where it was. We did get the TV but the ndn hadn't told us it was there, possibly biding their time to see if anyone noticed

OP - Just say no. Simples.
