She was asking what i was laughing at so i had to say something one of the kids were doing. But still think it is funny.

yabu

and silly

Hulababy · 13/11/2009 14:25

Can honestly say that I would have had absolutely no idea that "jack and danny" was rhyming slang for anything.

I gather "harry monk" must be too = what for?

I really haven't a clue what you are on about!

I saw an episode of Judge Judy (I know, I know) and there were twins on there called Justin and Dustin. That cracked me up for quite a while.

Harry Monk = Spunk, Hula

FimboFortunaFeet · 13/11/2009 14:30

I wouldn't have got that it was rhyming slang either. I know brothers Jack and Daniel.

Don't know what Harry Monk is either and I am a bit scared to google it too!

Hulababy · 13/11/2009 14:31

Even with the explanation of harry monk - still never heard of it.

Maybe the OP's relatives don't know rhyming slang either?

Can honestly say that rhyming slang is not something I have come across very much at all, so would never cross my mind to look for links.

muggglewump · 13/11/2009 14:33

I have a very infantile basic sense of humour.
Hell, the Go Compare ads crack me up

OP, I once took the mick out of names on here and not all repliers were as amused as I was either.
However some did also find calling your children Rhys and Summer when you have a terrible lisp is worth a snigger.

ooojimaflip · 13/11/2009 14:33

YANBU.

claw3 · 13/11/2009 14:34

Some of you people dont have a Danny La Rue, do ya!

and who said that MN is full of posh people eh

Harry Monk = spunk

BalloonSlayer · 13/11/2009 14:50

OP, I'd have sniggered at Jack and Danny.

All the jokes: "Have you seen my Jack and Danny?"

"We've all had chicken pox. I've had to cover my Jack and Danny with calomine!"

and so on.

Well she might end up calling them Danny and Jack. Shame

claw3 · 13/11/2009 14:52

Just having a bit of a bubble bath!

BalloonSlayer · 13/11/2009 14:57

"Just off to the barbers, to see if he'll give my Jack and Danny a trim."

"DH hardly ever goes to the pub any more. He likes his beer but he loves Jack and Danny more."

See, the possibilities are endless.

Hullygully · 13/11/2009 15:01

Okay.

Who knows "Romans," "Callards" and "Dustbins"?

That'll sort out the parvenus.

MamaLazarou · 13/11/2009 15:03

YANBU

That is hilarious.

claw3 · 13/11/2009 15:03

Dustbin lids - kids?

Hullygully · 13/11/2009 15:04

That was the easy one to lure you in...

Malificence · 13/11/2009 15:07

Is it a regional thing, I've never heard of it , I just thought Jack Daniels tbh.
Harry Monkton went over my head as well.

It's hard to keep a straight face in America, they have no idea why English people fall about when they come out with "honey, your fanny pack's open again"
or "I'm going to spank that fanny of yours".

Fanny = Bum over there you see.

claw3 · 13/11/2009 15:07

Roman candles - sandals? Havent got a danny about callards!

Hulababy · 13/11/2009 15:10

Who knows "Romans," "Callards" and "Dustbins"?

Nope, sorry.

Guess there isn't much call for cockney rhyming slang in Yorkshire.

In Yorkshire a danny is a hand...as in "hold my danny." Now that phrase for some of you lot would have an altogether different type of meaning!!!

claw3 · 13/11/2009 15:15

Im 'frank bough', got to get the 'dustbins' from 'having a ball'

Malificence · 13/11/2009 15:18

If I said "Arfur tow crate in staffy chair", would anyone have a clue?

Where I come from we all call each other "Duck" - A doorstop is a large sandwich and "snappin" is your tea evening meal.

pigletmania · 13/11/2009 15:21

YABU they are nice names , i could understand if it was rose and petal, or Tom and Tumb
