Have name changed as I don't want to be recognised in RL.

I have 2 DC, who happen to have names SIMILAR to those of a popular pig family on TV. George and Heppa.

I named them this before the programme started, George is George we just loved the name and Heppa is named after my late great, great Grandmother.

Heppa is begging me to allow her to change her name, she hates the connection. I hate that a certain group of mothers now call me "mummy pig" and snort as a greeting and then laugh and laugh. George doesn't care either way.

I've told Heppa no, I love her name too much, it's connections are far too important and have told George we will change his.

Everyone thinks I'm unreasonable, both kids, DH and all my family.

I don't think I am. I know I'm not, fed up of trying to convince them I am right.

I was thinking a 2/10 pyro.

Changing the name won't make your child any less boring.

YABU - leave your son out of it. And be forewarned, if your daughter hates her name that much (and Heppa-titus in secondary school is more than likely) she'll change it at 18 anyway.

WTF has changing your sons name got to do with your DD hating her name? Won't she feel resentful if you let your DS change his name when he's not bothered but not her when she really hates her name? Thats really not going to help you DD is it?

TBH I get the family connection thing, which is a nice thing to do and there are parents who name their children all sorts of weird names, but I always think it is unfair on the child. Children will tease for anything and something like this will make it a lot worse. I have heard worse names but I think it is a shame when parents feel they have to be 'different' and give a 'cool' name (although I know thats not what you have done, I'm just saying). There is a baby of the year competition going on at the moment and one of the babies is called Bear Wolf!!!! WTF! So there is worse around!

You would be surprised, I never thought I would live to see the day a child with the surname Day would have the first name Zippitydodah.

I lived next to a family who's surname was Day and they named their daughter Holly!
