To think that dressing a baby / toddler in designer labels is a bit weird?

I have a friend who frequently dresses her DC from head to toe in designer labels (he is 1.5 years old). He also wears some high street stuff too. I think it's quite odd to see a baby so young dressed in labels but I'm not quite sure why, it just seems not right & quite show offish TBH. Or is it just me? I'm not jealous of the baby clothes BTW, even if I was loaded I wouldn't buy them.

What do you think? AIBU?

Each to there own ds has a few designer bits mostly ralph lauren polo shirts and a ralph lauren snow suit, just because they last forever and we have alot of family in the states and to buy designer out there is the same price as buying high street things here.

I know a few people who only dress there child in designer labels (to match the designer dummies and bottles they have paid £100's of £ 4) that I find stupid.

Each to their own.

As long as it's nice I don't think it matters what the labor says.

I saw I baby leather jacket and a black puffa grow bag the other day.. I'd rather see a baby in Dior than that !

lol i like lovely stuff but not OTT.
dd used to be dressed in oilily, cakewalk when she was little,i loved dressing her. now she is almost 5, we are mostly in boden daily wardrobe, but still buy no added sugar, mini a ture, elaine et lena, barbara farber, mim-pi. they arent showy, but they are different and quirky, funky. always get comment how lovely her clothes are etc... i assume they also thinking what you thinking i guess.
people have different dress sense, but i wont spend ridicilouis amount on cavalli, simonetta etc.... thats simply rip off.

i think yabu its up to her, and not really odd if she can afford it and prefers it. maybe a bit odd if she is obsessive and will not put him in anything else normal high street clothes even if she thought they looked nice, but she has the attitude "oh no it must have a designer name or we can't use it." if she just finds them nice, can afford it so generally buys and uses them for him its just a normal choice

Seems like an awful waste of money when they grow out of them so quickly. And the kid doesn't care. So it seems a bit like making your child an accessory.

my neighbour spent 230 quid on 3 items of clothing from D&G for her 12month old son, i find it ridiculous! that money could have been put into a trust fund for her wee one yanbu, its her money so she can do what she wants although i feel its a waste of money

My sister bought my daughter lots of really nice stuff which i hated her wearing because i knew that once it got stained with the lovingly prepared jar food that i gave her, i'd never get it out and it would be ruined!

YABU only if she's one of the parents who sends her kid to nursery and then refuses to have him do any of the slightly messy activities in case the clothes get dirty.

Friend has son in nursery and laughed when the owner asked if some designer outfit was hers. Turned out the entire lost property box was designer items as all the other kids are in them, and the parents constantly complain when the kids get paint/food/mud on them!

I suggested she claim all the lost property and flog it on Ebay.

Explains why ds's nursery were at such pains to explain their babies get Very Messy... ds has some Boden and similar items from Ebay and jumble sales but tends not to wear them to nursery. It was custard play today...

Hmm YABU if she gets it all discounted. We've got ds quite a few heavily discounted items when we've been to Bicester. His Timberland Goretex lined boots we got for £9.99 were the best buy ever, he wore them all last winter and they were brilliant. He's got quite a few Ralph Lauren tops (£2 each) and Hackett rugby tops (£5 each) from there too.

YANBU as it is so expensive and they can look a bit chavtastic but I am quite jealous that I don't have loads to spend on Monsoon and Mini Boden stuff for dd!

i buy not so much designer clothes (quality a bit hit and miss) but do succumb to designer at denehams and monsoon for my two

YANBU. Of course it's up to her, and I would never criticise a mother for doing this in RL - but between us, here on MN, I find it peculiar. Actually, stronger than that - I find it ethically dodgy to waste that much money on something so transient; and it IS a waste, because there's no argument for buying for quality when stuff will only be worn a few months. I dunno, when there's so much hardship and poverty all around us...

I know that makes me sound very po-faced and puritan, but it's how I feel.

It's nice stuff, often unusual and very good quality so lasts for both dd's and still can get something for it on ebay when no longer needed.

DS and DD are in designer gear most of the time.

It's from ebay and I'd tell you the brands I go for, but I like the fact they aren't so common, so I get the items for less!!!

I don't get the whole 'ethical' thing - it's far more likely that the cheap brands are exploiting child labour etc.

I think it's ok to dress yr baby in whatever you like as long as it's clean and it fits right.

However, I think it shouldn't stop the baby/child from doing messy things 'in case they get dirty' because that's not what kids should be oncerned about.

Personally I buy clothes from any shop as long as it's good quality and pretty (I have a girl). I rarely spend much on basics like pyjamas or vests etc but i'll get a nice coat and shoes and don't mind if they're expensive.

If i'm honest I don't like plain looking clothes, jogging bottoms or shiny looking coats but that's just personal taste

Goretex lined boots in a sale is entirely different - I'm a bit at that!

Buying good quality outerwear/footwear when they're older can make all the difference between whinger and happy walker . Does Berghaus count as a label?

DS has got some designer stuff, mostly things that have been presents though although I do buy him the occasional thing if it's a bargin.

not so much weird as rather a waste of money given the short time a child of that age will fit the clothes but also barely any of the designer labels tumble dry - a prerequisite IMO for any child's capsule wardrobe!
