Want a quick response and figure no one much here at this time.

My daughter is 4yo and has a temp of 38.2. No symptoms and has been running around giving the dog a hard time this am. My instinct is to keep her home, my DP says definately keep her home. Thing is, she is kicking off because she wants to go to school.

Ordinarily i think i would probably send her in, im five minutes walk from the school and home all day if they need me to go and fetch her home. But what with swine flu, im not sure i would be happy if someone sent their child to school with a temp of 38. I dont exactly feel i could go up to her teacher and say, watch her shes running a temp.

Just wondered what other mums might do

Oh this thread has moved on in a surreal and MNettish way.

I agree with not giving Calpol for a temperature. A raised temp is a signal that the body is fighting an infection, and indeed part of the fight. By lowering the temp you are stopping the natural defences of the body working.

Obviously this goes as far as a temperature of ca. 39 - 40° or when the child is really suffering. I let my DC 'fever' as long as they are reasonably comfortable.

I am glad she is feeling better. I still think that you did the right thing, it could have went either way.

i don't think that you should send a child to school with a temperature. If it disappears you can always take them in later

thanks MmeLindt, I think she would have been fine to take in, but interestingly, she is just in the last half hour or so, developing a cold, so will have to see how she goes tomorrow - temp gone down though.
