To buy my MIL a goat for Christmas?

deaddei · 30/10/2009 20:30

My MIL, DM reader, will probably vote BNP "because they talk sense about immigration"- is not my favourite person, for reasons too numerous to go into.
For Xmas, dh normally gives her either a M & S voucher for about £50 or a bottle of Chanel.
I am tempted to suggest we buy her a goat, or some other Oxfam-inspired charitable gift.
Is that very very bad of me?

Given what's written in the OP I would get her a cow.

BiteOfFun · 30/10/2009 23:36

Oh mmred, I hope someone can fill in the rest of the song- that would be a marvellous bit of MNery

YES I agree with the goat. I am a MIL and usually try to look at things from the mil's perspective on these threads but for a woman who is going to vote BNP ..........definitely the goat!

TheDevilEatsBabies · 31/10/2009 16:41

i think the goat is a brilliant idea.

will piss her off, and it will help someone in need.

go for it!

2rebecca · 01/11/2009 00:34

What does your husband think? This is one reason why I let him buy the gifts for his half of the family, that and the fact that I am not his social secretary.

rimmer08 · 01/11/2009 14:07

you know you have to do this right?
haha fanny on her neck

deaddei · 01/11/2009 14:24

Dh buys the presents for his parents....I have nothing to do with it.Don't send them cards, will not attend their funeral etc.
However I am building up to the "I think it would be really nice to have a charitable slant on their gifts this year" conversation.

Another vote for the goat here.

deaddei · 01/11/2009 14:38

Well, much as I would like to splash out and go for the camel, £285 is far too much money to spend on her.
So I've narrowed it down to the goat (£25), or build a bog (£50) which could be a joint PIL present.
However I could pay to train a business woman, which could be a good one as she doesn't believe in women working (she has never had a job in her life).
Seriously, there are some fantastic gifts on there- care for a child with HIV and protect women from abuse.

what are these necklaces?
link please!

I am also really tempted to buy my mil a goat for christmas this year.

Mainly because every pressie I have ever bought for her, she has pulled a sucked lemon face when she has opened it.

Maybe we should buy a load of goats for our mils. Might get discount on them.
