Another couple and their boat have gone missing, on their way from the Seychelles to Tanzania. Just accept that it's a bit bloody dangerous round there at the moment and that you may not be able to fulfil your dream of going round the world. Alright?

I did a 2 week live-aboard dive trip to rather dangerous area of South China Sea. Knew all about it being not a friendly area, by any means, but figured it was a rare opportunity to dive in these waters that were accessible by boat only 3 months every year. So I signed on the agreement indicating that in case of the vessel being captured by pirates or marauding fundamentalists known to behead their captives in that very area, the government of the country that owned the waters, would not intervene, nor pay the ransom. It was a sobering moment and made us all think deeply about the risk we were about to take. In the end, we made a conscious decision to go ahead with it.
I was 23 at the time.
