to ask what is wrong with ordinary baby names and spellings?

Ok, why do people have to have outlandish names for their children?

Or choose a name that has a completely differentmadeup spelling, so that their child will spend their entire life going "oh no, it's spelt xxxxxx"?

Is there some sort of hierarchy of baby names?

What is wrong with ordinary and easy to spell names?

I'm sure that some people must go out of their way to find the most obscure name possible and post it on mumsnet, just to see what the reaction is!

Maybe not clear if you haven't seen the other that was at least only over 2 yrs old. Zombie thread.

MidniteScribbler · 01/03/2015 07:39

SewingAndCakes · 01/03/2015 07:40

Oh dear are you upset? I'm actually at work now. I'm going home soon to my husband and kids (who have names spelt in a pronounceable way). HTH Grin

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 07:44

You seriously can't pronounce my children's names? If you look them up they are all the Irish form and spelling of the names you usually see. It was my husband's wish to do something foe his grandfather who was from Ireland.

MrsTawdry · 01/03/2015 07:44

I really fail to see why people have such strong opinions of other people's children's names! It does not affect you...and naming your "boak" names is just rude as is proved by the person who came on to say herchild is called Kenzie. Such rude behaviour to come here and name the names you look down on. Hmm

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 07:49

My children all have unique names to go with there unique personalities. And honestly everyone always says how much they love there names.

pineappleshortbread · 01/03/2015 07:50

My parents were science fiction fans so gave me an unusual name that I have never heard anyone else have. Then my mum decided she wanted it spelt differently so now not only can people not pronounce my name they can't spell it either. I gave my boys ordinary names although I like unusual names that have been thought out with some intelligence if I had a daughter I would have called her ellianna as my husband liked ellie but I thought it was too common.

AuntieStella · 01/03/2015 07:51

"everyone always says how much they love there names."

Yes, in RL I would always find something positive to say. Everyone would.

HairyPotter · 01/03/2015 07:52

Is Mjay Irish? I didn't know that.

Every day is a school day.

Janethegirl · 01/03/2015 07:52

It's their not there. 'There' is a place Confused

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 07:56

Regardless My daughter has an amazing name it's Aryllya (ary-ella). My sons are also very blessed Mjay, Aeyn (a-in) and Rhyun. We enjoy that we are different as a child there was 8 girls in my class with the same name as me it was kinda annoying.

AgadorSpartacus · 01/03/2015 07:57

They are not Irish.

ourglass · 01/03/2015 07:58

cringe

Vivacia · 01/03/2015 07:59

It is obviously very important to you Kandyutt and I think it's lovely that you take such pride in your children's names.

pineappleshortbread · 01/03/2015 08:00

I will never say that I love my name is always shorten it now to lea whenever I introduce myself

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 08:00

Yes they

AgadorSpartacus · 01/03/2015 08:01

Apologies Rhyun is.

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 08:01

I am sorry that you had a bad experience with your name.

Janethegirl · 01/03/2015 08:03

Have reported this.

pineappleshortbread · 01/03/2015 08:04

Thanks kandy. I did have a nice list of unusual names for my children before I met my husband who hated them all. Ever since my name though I want them to be spelt how they sound and sound pretty because I don't think my name does sound nice.

pineappleshortbread · 01/03/2015 08:04

Reported what jane?

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 08:07

Actually they all are. Aeyn is so common it's Hebrew (ayn) Islamic (aaen) and than Irish it's spelled Aein Now Aryllya is ariella and it is also and Irish princess with 4 brothers and being the only girl she's our princess.

Mehitabel6 · 01/03/2015 08:09

Of course in RL people say they love their names-that is quite different from what they think! They are polite.
It obviously bothers you or you wouldn't have trawled back over 5 yrs finding threads!

kandyutt · 01/03/2015 08:09

It just so boring if we're all exactly the same

AgadorSpartacus · 01/03/2015 08:09
Hmm

Mjay? Really?
What does it mean?
What is it's Gaelic origin?
