"please can you ask your mewsreader, when mentioning the Poppy Appeal launched today by Dame vera, to stop saying "soldiers" and use the words Armed Forces or Military, because as records sadly show, it's not just the Army who are sadly losing personel"

. Sorry if others thin I am being Unreasonable, but it's a bugbear of mine

Should have said the above relates to why call them heroes - might have got bit carried away

Rindercella · 22/10/2009 17:38

Kayran, not carried away, very well put and rightly (imo) a bit pissed off by previous comments.

CLOVER81 · 22/10/2009 17:39

Well said kayran !!

Saltire · 22/10/2009 18:25

Well I have just heard the defence correspondent on BBC news refer, twice to the Militray as "soldiers, sailors and airmen".

Maybe I should now say "oh and by the way, there are women there now and some have been killed adly too"

Yes do, but probably someone is banging a sub over the back of the head with a frying pan as we post

My DH is not here at the moment - just us 4 girls rattling around together. Maybe that's why this post touched a nerve... It would be nice to get everyone acknowledged all the time but it doesn't always happen and military folk tend not to mind. However, this years poppy appeal will be a litmus test of public backing and it would be lovely if it was a record breaking year.
