I know this has been done before. But DS and I were nearly just run over by some twat white van man who apparantly doesn't think that indicating applies to him.

It's a busy turning with no crossing without going half a mile out of my way and you can't always wait for a break in the traffic - you have to wait for someone who isn't indicting to turn, wait for them to start passing the turning and then take your chances. Obviously this doesn't take into account dickheads who decide not to indicate and then turn wide. Sorry for the rant, but I'm still shaking.

Well done Sidge

Really gets on my tits too - I have a new car, and I can assure you I have indicators and am not afraid to use them
The other thing I find utterly mad is the amount of idiots driving around in the grey misty/drizzly mornings, or on roads where there is lots of spray with NO FUCKING LIGHTS ON!!! Talk about utter morons, and the thing is you know who are the worst offenders? Grey/silver car owners - the ones that are the LEAST visible in conditions like this!

ludog · 22/10/2009 10:44

I also really really hate people who indicate incorrectly on roundabouts. If you are taking second exit DO NOT INDICATE RIGHT!! I was behind someone last week on a ring road with seven roundabouts and he indicated right at every flipping one even though he was going straight on at each one. Grrr!!
Thank you, I feel much better now.

Stayingscarygirl · 22/10/2009 10:53

Oh. I thought that you indicated right on a roundabout until after the exit before the one you are taking - which sounds like what this chap was doing.

Mind you, it is a lot of years since I took my driving test, so am probably wrong.

Glad to know I wasn't BU.

It drives me crackers, and of course if you're pushing a buggy it'll be the DC that cops it.

I remember once crossing the same road in my OP - I was nearly across and a driver came up, turned (no indicator of course) and turned so wide that he was on the wrong side of the road and I was in his way, and had the cheek to beep me! I'm glad to say I didn't hurry up and mouthed 'fuck off' at him.

scarygirl, if you are going straight on at a roundabout, you don't indicate on entering the roundabout, and indicate left once you are passing the exit before your exit. No matter what junction you are exiting on, your car should be indicating left as you exit. Unless it is a mini-roundabout, and then you should just indicate in the direction you want to go, not change to left indication as you exit. Hope that makes sense! I was taking driving lessons until about 18 months ago, so fairly up to date to modern rules of the road!

Stormfly · 24/10/2009 09:34

Thoroughly agree - lack of indication is maddening, especially at roundabouts. I don't know how non-indicating drivers can fail to realise this - surely they must find it easier themselves at roundabouts when other drivers indicate? Lane-changing is the other one where indicating would be better than just unexpectedly swerving in and out of lanes.

Very impressed by Sidge - I am too chicken to say anything or do beaky signs so I just mutter sarcastically at them but that isn't very good as it just encourages the children to be judgemental (look, mummy, he didn't indicate). Must find a more zen approach!

curlyredhead · 24/10/2009 09:56

YANNNNBU. Drives me completely demented. That and drivers who stop on junctions too far forward to see the traffic lights, and then start rolling forward through the junction when it's now a red light for them and the chuffing green man is on. Aaaaargh! And glare at me trying to cross with my pram+preschooler. Aaaaaargh!

Diziet · 24/10/2009 12:09

OOOOOOh, SO glad to hear it's not just me being a grumpy old cow about this one!! It does seem that so many cars aren't fitted with indicators these days. I always find mine ok - and I only passed my test in 2005 whilst 7 months pregnant with no 1 son. I hardly ever drive nowadays but I can still remember where the bloody indicators are!!!!

theworldsgoneDMmad · 24/10/2009 13:05

YANBU.

Idiots not indicating is in arrogant, mistaken assumption that they

a) have right of way due to being in a car and/or

b) can see every pedestrian/other vehicle

at all times

Thank-you LifeofKate - and sorry that I didn't spot your reply sooner.

LuluDanceOnMyGrave · 29/10/2009 09:28

Dear Suffolk residents,

Please learn which is left, and which is right.

Oh, and while we're at it, try getting in the correct lane and not just drifting mindlessly all over the place like you're the only one on the road.

Thank you.
