to think that my dc's school newsletter shouldn't have a countdown to half-term

It started last week and we had it again this week. I just feel it's inappropriate for the school and teachers to be sending out this message that they or we should be longing for the holidays like this.

Maybe they recognise that this first half of term is often a difficult one for children. They may find it hard to settle in new class/starting school/are generally tired after knuckling down to hard work after an easy-going summer.

Doesn't sound odd to me. Who doesn't look forward to the school holidays??

the number of parents who say "oh no, its half term next week and I havent sorted childcare yet!" is unbelievable

and i think it is part of human nature, DH certainly counts down to his holidays (and is not a teacher) - its normal to want to look forward to something nice is it not?

Agree with PeedOff, some parents actually turn up at school on the 1st day of the holidays, this would definitely help them

It doesn't really matter, like most things we get a bit hot under the collar about. It just seemed a bit out of place on the school's weekly newsletter to parents. Big letters '2 weeks to go.....!' I wasn't sure what they meant at first. Of course we all look forward to the holidays. I suppose I would just hope that the people who look after my dc's for the day weren't quite so open about it to me!

They probably assume that parents are looking forward to spending more time with their children!

Well my boys (10 and 12) count-down to holidays; I've always done count-downs to holidays - I love spending time with them and I love the reprieve from all the routine; I've worked in secondary schools for the last 4 years and my colleagues and I certainly count down to the holidays.

So I don't have a problem with it at all!

I love spending time with my kids too. And I don't doubt the teachers are looking forward to the break. I'm just not sure that the newsletter is an appropriate place to voice it but it seems like I'm almost alone Thanks bigchris .
