This is a bit lighthearted really not bothering me that much but omg some of the status's my friends write on facebook....

'x is so proud her beautiful baby has done a burp'

'y is bursting with proud about the fact that she has the most gorgeous little boy in the world who is so clever and wonderful cos he's drawn a face'

I always want to write...do you think that you're the only people who've ever had kids? All parents are proud of their kids, we don't need to know everytime your child blinks how proud you are!

geez....

I also want to write 'boak' all over my firends FB pics. There is a title and comment for EVERY pic.

onthepier · 17/10/2009 23:43

One of my friends wrote on her status that she was feeling very proud of her ds recently. After several comments of "What did he do?" etc, she then answered saying that he'd been awarded a "highest achiever" certificate at school and he was the only one in his year group to get it!

Now I would be proud too, but put it on Facebook? No, it's just too much like bragging for me!

OrangeFish · 17/10/2009 23:52

Oh well, I have a cousin cooing about her home grown aubergines, and in despair about the lack of weight gain of her tomatoes, gets very depressed at it all but what I find more irritating is the crowd of friends who come to console her saying things like "take it easy easy, they may be fine tomorrow". FGS!!!

anonymous85 · 18/10/2009 02:42

Use the "hide" button ;) I've hidden a few friends that continually stat and are really annoying

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 18/10/2009 07:44

YANBU
I have a friend who does this. She's lovely but I had to hide her. Occasionally I unhide her for a laugh. Recently her status said 'X is wishing for a fairy godmother to come and give us what we desperately need - a house for me, DP, DS and DD to live in - my babies = my world XOXXXOOXOOCX'
honestly her kids are pretty much the main thing she has going on so it's not surprising they are all about them.

Georgimama · 18/10/2009 07:51

I've had to hide a few friends' updates (they seem to think FB is twitter and they need to share every thought that marches across their brains). One really gets to me because all she does is post negative things about her 2 year old daughter.

"Why oh why can't X go to sleep?"

ten seconds later

"X asleep thank God"

six minutes later

"X is awake. It isn't fair. why can't I have a normal child??"

All this before 7pm.

And every comment is accompanied by 20+ "aw hun, you are a gr8t mum, lol {{hugs}} from various friends of hers (who I don't know).

Arrghhhh.

ProfYaffle · 18/10/2009 07:54

You can hide people? You can hide people! Thank fuck, am off to use my new powers.

Georgimama · 18/10/2009 07:55

It's very hidden, somewhere in personal settings, but yes, you can hide people from your newsfeed without deleting them as a friend.

ProfYaffle · 18/10/2009 07:59

I've just realised that if you roll over a post 'hide' pops up in the right hand corner, you just need to click it.

Thank the Lord, no more "x sent y a 'friends are special!' scruffy teddy" from people I barely remember from school.

girlsyearapart · 18/10/2009 08:02

monsterspam I think you know some of the same people as I've got on my f book!

I do put things on my status about the kids but mainly stuff like 'can't believe dd2 is allergic to xyz food wtf do I cook now' or 'i'm so tired' and variations of tiredness themed updates. Boring I know.

Though most of my updates are not about the kids.

Have one person who puts 'lil man' all the time. Vom.

Another whose child is about 5 months and puts weekly albums of photos of the child on. (in her defence her family are in another country so she may be doing it for them) I do wonder how many weeks she'll last though?

So YANBU but it does say 'What's on your mind?' and some people do mainly have minds involving pukey kid related issues.,.

Wanderingsheep · 18/10/2009 08:51

Yanbu! Competative parenting is a nightmare.

I have deactivated my facebook account recently, it was depressing me because most of my "friends" didn't have children so it was always:

"x is feeling rough!" with comments like, "ha ha! No sympathy, you were pissed last night you pisshead!"

and

"y had a good night with the girls"

or

"z is having fun in the sun!"

Grr.

seaglass · 18/10/2009 08:56

Chickenshavenolips - my updates are the same as yours
I don't mention my DC's at all on facebook, unless they've done something amazing - no, burps don't count!
I'm pretty sure most of my friends will have hidden my status updates, as there's only so much they'll want to know about my chooks

someone I know put (and I remember it word for word because I was so shocked) "Im glad *** is better but now shes back to being a lil twat"

there is so much wrong with that status I dont know where to begin

a bit beside the point but why do people put lil? it doesn't take much to put in the other letters

Wanderingsheep · 18/10/2009 09:23

I know I hate "lil" too and text speak. It makes it hard to read what they've written without having Ali G's accent in my head!

BertieBotts · 18/10/2009 09:34

I have a friend on FB (another one of these old school friends who I wouldn't speak to in the street) and she commented recently on her friend's profile

"Nawty

piscesmoon · 18/10/2009 09:39

YANBU- hopefully they grow out of it. I have seen threads on mumsnet (never looked at them) that start 'this little piggy likes....' or 'cheeky monkeys...' I think -'pass the sick bucket' but then I try to be more generous and think we were all had FB once!

FfreckleFface · 18/10/2009 09:54

I had to delete a girl I went to school with when she updated her status with,
'x has highlighted y's hair an he luks sexy as fuck!!!'

About her son. Who is four.

I'm snobby about 'hun' and textspeak and lol anyway, so this drove me over the edge. Just delete people who irritate you - it is so satisfying.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/10/2009 10:37

Hmm. Yabu, a bit. I like hearing that someone is proud of their kids (as long as they don't use babytalk!) - certainly nicer than listening to some of my childless schoolfriends going on about their "messy weekends" - one was bragging about being so drunk he'd pissed up against a cash machine in a banks foyer once!

My fb parent gripe is: One of my friends will not have ANY pics of her baby on facebook at all, tells everyone who asks for pics at length how she thinks it's "so dangerous" etc - I know it's her choice yadda yadda but given that she has a private profile and that you can choose for ONLY friends, not friends of friends to see your pics, I'm wondering which of her 90 odd friends she thinks is a paedophile exactly?

UnquietDad · 18/10/2009 10:39

PFB syndrome, isn't it? I see this all the time with friends who have had new "babsies" (boak). The dads are just as bad, really!!

But I have the agree, the ones that really make me see red are the likes of "R had a fab weekend in Budapest, not too hung over!!!!! or "Brilliant X convention in New York" and the like...

UnquietDad · 18/10/2009 10:40

have TO agree. Sorry, still waking up.

beaniesinthebucketagain · 18/10/2009 11:11

classic one this morning!

my precious (instert name with irritating ey on the end) said mummy and daddy today,

A 'friend' replies mama and dada are just sounds at 7mnths they dont give a fig who you are aslong as you feed them!

part of me laughed and part of me felt a little sorry for the poor sad cow realising PFB wasnt saying mummy!

Georgimama · 18/10/2009 11:27

I will admit to putting a lot of photos of DS and DN on FB but that is because we have family in Australia who have only met DS once and DN not at all. I don't expect my friends to look at them, although it's nice if they do.

Monsterspam · 18/10/2009 11:34

Another classic;

Is thinkin which ov my wickd m8ts r family haz attackd t front ov me house wi t 30 ballooonz nd bannaz ?.Yaz r bloody wickd, but a luv it CHEERAZ.X

God, my head may explode

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 18/10/2009 11:41

What is with 'nawty' and 'gawjuss'? Why? It hurts me.
