to want to ram people in the legs with my pushchair when going through automatic doors?

Surely I am not the only one that gets seriously fucked off with hoards of fit healthy people cramming through automatic doors, meaning I have to squeeze though with buggy + child + shopping when there is a push door right next to it that no one uses?!!?!

oh, and I don't have a fat arse, my arse is a size 10

Because they are selfish twats and probably have parked in a P&T parking space to boot. [shrug] You can't change that but you can choose to (a) swan through a manual door quicker than it takes them to shuffle through the oh-so-busy, packed-to-bursting automatic one or (b) just get on with life and forget about it

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 12/10/2009 14:39

Ah, that's where you're going wrong then,

IWantAChickAndADuck · 12/10/2009 14:41

or c) ram the selfish twats with the pushchair so they don't do it again

Iwant I wouldn't push in front of anyone pushchair or not. If someone behind me had a pushchair I probably wouldn't notice as I tend to have tunnel vision. I am oblivious to my surroundings unless they are right in front of me. In that case, no I probably wouldn't step back and let them go first and nor would I expect anyone else to when I have the buggy.

Cadelaide · 12/10/2009 14:51

YABU

It's not that hard to get a pushchair through a door, never crosses my mind that I should be given priority.

Stop whinging and just get on with it.

IWantAChickAndADuck · 12/10/2009 14:51

I think it's more when your facing people coming the other way, they can see you are stood waiting for a break in the traffic to get through but they just carry on, or the people that 'hop' over the pushchair because they are in a hurry, just use the push door if that the case, don't tutt at me as if it's ME that shouldn't be there?!

If they don't have children, they're probably looking at you and assuming that you could either shop off peak (baby = at home all day natch) or that you could get a babysitter and come shopping unencumbered.

They may be making massive and wrong judgements about your needs and life situation, but it's no more than you're doing to them.

Personally I use a sling so hop on and off buses, escalators etc. all the time and don't give it a second thought. I open doors for people with buggies all the time, but I certainly wouldn't wave them through an automatic door ahead of me. If there's a queue you wait in it, surely

It actually is Cadelaide, at the shopping mall I go to anyway, they are heavy and it's hard manovering pushchair with buggy board on anyway, never mind through a door.

Plus I don't have a big arse

it's not about being selfish and inconsiderate,it's about just getting on with it. the idea that people without prams shouldn't use the big ass automatic doors that are the entrance to most supermarkets is just bizarre.i hold open doors for people,i give up seats, let others go ahead of me etc.
but getting pissed off and expecting people to give way to you because you have a buggy is fucking ridiculous, just walk through in line with everyone else.
i'm not talking about an "i'm alright jack" mentality or banging on about having as much legal right to go through an automatic door as somebody else.this is just literally one of the smallest issues i've ever heard someone complain about,it smacks of being petty and having a sense of entitlement to me.
i mean honestly how much can this possibly put someone out, that other people are walking through the same space as you but you don't want them there because you have a buggy?

Cadelaide · 12/10/2009 21:39

Ah.

Have you tried just standing in front of it and looking around, smiling hopefully?

(This carries a risk of being branded a nutter, but then so does ramming people's legs with pushchair )

IWantAChickAndADuck · 13/10/2009 08:27

"just walk through in line with everyone else"

Mayorquinby - this is my point, unfortuanatly this isn't possible without ramming people in the legs, because they just walk round cut in front etc. Very rarely have I seen a line for an automatic door, people just pile through regardless of who's trying to get through, whether it's wheelchairs/pushchairs. I just think it's rude that people don't pay attention and give way to those that would find it harder than them to use a push door. And yes, it probably is petty, but don't worry I'm not loosing sleep over it...

It is a little annoying, the doors, lifts, ramps (instead of using the stairs) etc etc, but I always think to myself, that actually I don't know if there is anything wrong with the people, that they can't use stairs, manual doors etc, you can't tell just by looking at someone.

And also anyone can use whichever door they like to walk through as they're entitlled to use lift if they wish.

So YANBveryU for it to annoy you......but

YABU to want to ram your pushchair into them.

It's the people who get into the lift before me when I was waiting for it first that really annoy me, that's just really rude, people who use auto doors instaed of opening one for themselves are probably just not thinking

dollyparting · 13/10/2009 16:33

Agree 100% with mayorquimby.

Many people will stop to allow people with pushchairs and children through. But people with little children are not the only people in the world.

Imisssleeping · 13/10/2009 16:55

what's the starbuck's sofa thing?

SomeGuy · 13/10/2009 17:00

revolving doors are designed to stop heat escaping from buildings. They are not particularly suitable for pushchairs.

BarakObamasTransitVan · 13/10/2009 17:32

It might have been Costa, Imiss. Someone was getting terribly upset about people nabbing the sofas when they thought they had greater need. I searched quickly but can't find the thread.
