to want to burn my bed

FLEAS!!!!
Fucking fleas!
They are treating my bed as some sort of flea metropolis. I've sprayed the bed, to no avail.
I have so many bites they have morphed into dermatitis. DH is unaffected
Last night, when we were off to bed I said, "well it's back to the flea pit."
He looked really hurt and replied, "don't say that," as if the bed has fucking feelings. Heaven forbid, I upset the bed.
I'm itchy and my sanctuary has turned into a flea fiesta and I think it's only fair I set fire to all the little bastards.

As an aside, are fleas actually good for anything or do they just spread disease and piss me off?

wash your sheets and duvet covers at v high temp and wash your duvet air your bed during the day. they don't like the cold!!

Podrick · 10/10/2009 07:36

Where have they cne from... Do you have pets?

tillyfernackerpants · 10/10/2009 07:37

Get a flea bomb! You have to close the doors & windows & leave the room for a few hours but it does work.

Sympathies, they're horrible feckers

duchesse · 10/10/2009 07:39

Are you sure it's not bed bugs? Apparently they hide in the woodwork during the day and come out at night, so getting rid of them is virtually impossible short of, well, burning the bed.

PumpkinsCantDanceTheTango · 10/10/2009 07:46

Yuck! Hope the wee fekkers go away soon!

But at your op, made me laugh sorry.

Divvy · 10/10/2009 07:49

If it was fleas they would not jsut be in your bed! They would be over the whole house!

Sorry but its worse than fleas!

Bed bugs!

Bed dugs are really bad, and you need a proper bug person/killer to come to your house!

You have to get rid of every bit of fabric in your bedroom too!

duchesse · 10/10/2009 07:56

Bed bugs Sorry, but it does sound more like these buggers than fleas.

Divvy · 10/10/2009 07:58

I will NOT click on that link, as I just know there will be a blown up picture of one!

duchesse · 10/10/2009 08:04

There's a roughly two by two pic of one- it's the wikipedia entry. I didn't realise that they actually look quite like fleas, but a bit paler. I don't think they jump though.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/10/2009 10:34

'All bedbugs mate via a process termed traumatic insemination.[4][5][6] Instead of inserting their genitalia into the female's reproductive tract as is typical in copulation, males instead pierce females with hypodermic genitalia and ejaculate into the body cavity.'

is that the most horrible thing you have ever read?

I don't think fleas can breed without animals, iyswim. It does sound like bed bugs - the bites are big and nasty, from what I know. Some people react to the bites, some don't.

It's really hard to get rid of them, too.

Trikken · 10/10/2009 10:46

I've read keeping the bed aired helps, but wont get rid of them.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/10/2009 10:53

Fleas can't breed without animals I don't think but they also can't bite without animals - fleas which have hatched but not fed from a proper source can't give you proper flea bites. You'll notice tiny red dots right after one has tried to bite you but it will not develop into a bite, so if they are properly biting and you don't have a pet it's probably bed bugs. Also fleas would be everywhere, not just in the bed. Can you see them on the sheets? Do they jump or scuttle? Fleas jump but bedbugs scuttle v fast. Flea spray also won't kill bedbugs, has anyone stayed in a hotel lately?

vampyrekisses · 10/10/2009 10:57

omg i dont know how you are still getting into the bed every nite...i would have it straight into the garden and torch it!

MrsChemist · 10/10/2009 11:57

I have a cat and they are all over the house, it's just that the cat slept on the bed for ages.
I've treated the house with insecticide, washed my sheets and bought a new duvet. The spray said not for human bedding so I just sprayed the mattress. Methinks I might just spray the whole fecking thing. I sprayed the couch and it hasn't done me any harm.
I'm fairly sure it is fleas 'cause I've seen them hopping about, unless of course, beg bugs can hop....
Oh God I hope it's not bed bugs!

go to the vets the stuff from shops are rubbish we gor ge drops for the t cats and Rip Flea for spraying on soft furnishings etc get a flea bomb too flees can live up to a year after a cat has left the house apparantly

boodeniites · 10/10/2009 12:14

sorry that was meant to be advantage drops and dont forget to hoover your skirting boards regualrly thats where they like to live the wee mingers

MrsChemist · 10/10/2009 15:32

I'm going to go mental with the flea spray today. I got it from the vets. it'a actually got to the point where I would rather get a rash from too much insecticide than a rash from the fecking flea bites.
My mum saw one today as well, and she said it was a flea.
Might try a flea bomb as well, thanks

You need to get pest control in, our local council gives free pest control if you get tax credits, dont know your situation though. (we had rats in the loft and got them rid for free)

Your house needs sorting by someone that knows what they are doing as I think a few cans of spray are just not going to work at this stage I am afraid.

Eve34 · 10/10/2009 16:34

I feel your pain. I am sorry to say I spent over £100 on flea bombs sprays etc etc. In the end we had to get pest control in. Best thing we ever did they did all the beds soft furnishings etc etc all for £75. Make sure you shop around some were quoting £250!!!!

Good luck

Hi All

I'm working on a documentary series for Discovery's 'Animal Planet' about 'Extreme Infestations'. We are currently looking for case studies to be featured which will focus on the worst cases of infested homes and examine the science of how / why it happens and what can be done to solve the problem.

We will be handling the topic in a sensitive manner, and each case study will be led by the first-hand account of the homeowner.

We are keen to find people who can tell the story of living with the pests, either because they posed a real nuisance (for example bedbugs, raccoons) or because they realised too late that they had a big problem (termites). We?re covering any type of pest, including mice, fleas, cockroaches, spiders, termites, ants, bats, moles, bees, wasps, bats, frogs, woodworm, snakes, birds, squirrels and moths etc.

If this is an event that happened some time ago we are hoping the person will have shot their own video footage. If it is a ?live? story (and we can get out in order to film it in time) then we can film it then, or else ask the participants to film what they can until we arrive. In addition to home video footage, we intend to use CGI to illustrate the animal behaviour, such as the path of termites through a house and their nesting behaviour etc.

If you think you could be a candidate, or know of someone with such a problem then do get in touch asap.

Thanks

SpiderObsession · 24/05/2010 14:29

Do you cover DHs too? Mine's definitely a pest.
