Dd2 was asked to design a healthy meal in school today, so she did baked beans with bread and lettuce. While certainly not the most inspired choice of the century I don't see anything wrong with it, but according to her teacher you just wouln't have lettuce with it? Why ever not?

o -bum- bother, I can't seem to do crossing out today.

choccyp1g · 08/10/2009 21:39

because I didn't put enough dashed dashes.

SO blimmin what if it doesn't go (yet). Some geeza made a fortune out of selling garlic icecream, and given the choice of that or the OP's menu I know which I would prefer.

I take it you are all against wilted rocket in italian dishes then?

Am fascinated. So what meals do you have lettuce with then? I would quite often have a salad with hot food.

The teacher wasn't mean to your dd or ridicule her for her efforts did she?

So long as she was supportive of her efforts I don't think there's anything wrong with the teacher suggesting to your dd that most people would not have lettuce with beans on toast. A few people might, but most people won't. If we're being realistic.

Well I'm German and I don't see anything weird at all in having lettuce wiht hot meals.

My mum always serves lasagna with a salad, - come to think of it, - everywhere I eat sells salad with hot food.

I grew up in a family that salways had a salad and some bread at the table for all meals with the exception of a Sunday roast.

I think it was to make us continue to sit and pick at food even if we didn't like the main course.
I still do this and

it does make the children sit through the whole meal without constant nagging, or whinging

It bulks out any meal you have.

I love finishing my meals even a saucy one with salad

We often have salad with jacket potato and beans as a quick comfort meal - not mixed together of course, but then I like to have salad separately anyway most of the time

The only meal I can think of right now (i'm sure there are more) where I really would think salad was a weird accompaniment is sunday roast. Mind you, when I lived in France you would get usually get a salad course if you were have roast meat (not the same sort of roast meal of course though)

Lettuce and cold beans is lovely. Especially with a goodly dollop of mayo.

listen to you lot about hot meals and salad as if you're saying something none of us aware of.

We are answering the op title re what's wrong with lettuce with beans on toast.
