A friend of mine came round last night and after much T and sympathy for me, she told me some "good news"

she's taking Clomid (which she has bought online and has been given some by another friend) because she wants to have twins!!!

I dont know any thing much about clomid apsrt from what I have seen when googled it just now, but it just makes me scream - its dangerous????? As she isnt being watched by a doctor or any thing.

Plus, the cherry on the you-silly-muppet-cake was - she hasnt told her DH and isnt going too. She won't tell him either, even if they do concieve.

She has no other fertility problems, she has a healthy DD already.

AiMBU?

I am thinking of telling her to look on here - so, if you're reading this, and you know me, I am so sorry. I don't have the guts to say this to your face. I am worried sick about you. About your marriage.

I don't think this is healthy - for you, for DH (your husband) and for any baby / babies you may have.

Everyone above is right, you dont know what you taking.

I love you very much - please, please don't do this.

Oh my gosh, is the woman completely insane?

Why does she want twins so badly?

OrangeFish · 08/10/2009 20:02

I was checked every six months when I was taking it... even if that meant traveling to the other side of the Atlantic to see my gynecologist. I wouldn't dream to take it without regular medical supervision even if it was initatially prescribed by a doctor.

Hulababy · 08/10/2009 20:07

Sh is being very very silly and extremely irresponsible. Clomid needs medical supervision.

I took Clomid for 6 months and the side effects were horrid. I felt depressed all the time. I felt sick, tired and very down - for 6 months. TBH nearly a year later I still have more problems with the feeling down issue than I have ever had in the past. And it didn't help me get pg either.

I wouldn't take Clomid unless I genuinely needed too - and IMO the desire for twins is definitely not a good enough reason

legspinner · 08/10/2009 23:37

Your friend is nuts. Apart from the issue of unsupervised Clomid use, and even whether it is Clomid at all, and the dangers associated with that....does she know about the risks associated with a multiple pregnancy and birth? Higher rates of premature birth, more likely to be in neonates, higher risk of pre-eclampsia etc..show her this link

So many people have said to me when seeing my DTs, "Oh I wish I had twins", which would always leave me gobsmacked. Why?? Yes, possibly a lovely romantic idea, but just try looking after any preschool twins for an extended length of time, or trying to calm 2 screaming babies, or dealing with sleep schedules that are completely out of kilter (don't get me wrong I love my DTs to bits of course).

I feel sorry for her DH too. He should really know what she's up to.

Fibilou · 11/10/2009 09:38

You should tell her husband I think, for her own good

DorotheaPlentighoul · 11/10/2009 09:58

Anyone who would do this clearly has a screw loose. Is she usually this irresponsible and thick? Or is it out of character?

Honestly, I would be concerned that there is something slightly wrong with her state of mind. Has anything happened in her life recently that might serve to explain this behaviour?

DorotheaPlentighoul · 11/10/2009 10:00

And also (just re-read OP) this other "friend" who has GIVEN her some of her supply of Clomid do you know her as well? Can you discuss with her? Because that seems like mad behaviour too.

girlsyearapart · 11/10/2009 10:01

good grief not good idea.

choosy now I'm curious about the other 3..
