I bought something off Ebay and just got a message from the seller saying that once they'd packaged up the item the postage was higher than they expected and could I pay the extra cost.
I often lose money on postage with Ebay because my scales don't tally with the Post Office's but I wouldn't dream of asking the buyer to cover for my mistake.

I would say no, it is cheeky of a seller i must say. As a buyer and seller on e bay, i did put the postage a bit lower than i thought and when at the post office it was more i paid it and would never ask the buyer to pay extra. On my listings i have also said UK bidders only and my p&p was free, some person from Europe bidded and i had to ask them for the extra postage as it was abroad.

I think I'd mention it if it cost a fiver more on the postage and admit it was cheeky but... [cheesy hopeful grin]
I reckon for 95p once you've posted it you're just asking to be denied.

The seller ought to have checked the weight before listing the item. I weight al my items before listing, then add a bit for packaging, in order not to get caught short. On the occasions when I've got it wrong, I've swallowed the cost because I consider the contract is a contract.

But thanks, ChunkyMonkeysMum, it's good to know this! (though, with the asymmetric feedback terms these days, it might not be worth losing goodwill...)

Had a lovely seller once who emailed to say she'd guessed at postage and overcharged me - and she promptly refunded me the excess!
