Under 4s in the cinema. Wrong or right?

Am I being unreasonable in thinking parents shouldn't take toddlers to the cinema (parent and baby screamings -- sorry screenings, apart) unless they are able to sit through it; without shrieking, needing the plot explained to them all the way through at normal volume, or wandering around disturbing other people?
I think it's selfish and can spoil outings for other families.
Even U rated films are only rated suitable for children aged 4 and over.

I've also been the parent removing a child from the cinema, albeit not under three years old.
G (Aspergers and likes people to keep rules) has had to leave the cinema due to unrestrained conversations, yelling and popcorn throwing by younger children.
It's when he stood up at 9 years old and roared 'Can't you restrain your bloody children? This is a cinema, for God's sake!' that I realised he wasn't cut out for matinees.

Think they are mainly Cineworld hanaboo.

Odeon also do Kids screenings but not sure if they are as cheap.

Don't think there should be specific age limit more of a case of parents/staff acting correctly and realising that other people would actually quite like to watch the film..

Especially if it's a full price showing that's one hell of an expensive outing nowadays..

YANBU. There are some things where IMO the choice is a. don't do it or b. wait until dc are older. But plenty of parents seem to have a problem with this.

My dd's been going to the cinema since she was 2.

She's fine with Pixar but occasionally we have explain plot points to her if we're watching Truffaut or something following the Dogme manifesto.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/09/2009 21:16

if they can sit still and not talk through it then yes

i have taken my dc to cinema and pantos, last xmas baby was 6mths and she was thrilled by all the lights and 3yr watched with pleasure as well

its VERY annoying when you go and have a child crying/talking/screaming etc through film

YANBU. If the child (whatever their age) isn't able to sit through the film, fairly quietly, then don't take them.

DH took our four year old once. It was some disney cartoon, can't remember which one. DS didn't like it, said it was too loud & wanted to leave. So we won't take him again till he feels happier about it.
