horrible 'stiggy' child and their parents at DD's school.

I have just spent the last hour dragging a nitty gritty comb through DD's long thick hair.
She started school 2 weeks ago and this is the third time she has come home with creepy crawlies.

She was in tears yet again because it hurts her, and i know she isn't exagerating as i do my own and it is one of the most painfull things in the world.

Im getting really fed up with my DD having to go through this every week simply because a couple of parents cannot be fecked to do their own or their childrens hair.

Im a bit fecked off that we aren't allowed a nit nurse anymore because it might breach someones human rights. what about my daughters human rights not to get infested every time she goes to school?

I know that headlice is just a childhood thing and we all expect to get them at some point but this is getting stupid.

mamazon, not if you use enough conditioner and start at the ends and work up... my hair is very thick too

my kids haven't had them yet but i got them once as a teen and found washing my hair, then combing through olive oil heavily infused with tea tree oil with a nit comb, leaving for half an hour and then re washing and rubbing a few drops of tea tree into my scalp/hair and repeating the procedure every day for a week did the job

just a childhood thing?? God I wish (scratches head as she's damn sure she's going to need to go through her own hair another 50 times to get the little critters out) - and no they haven't come from school - DS1 and 2 are clear, DS3 has them too - and he's not been anywhere to get them........which means I've got them from someone (an adult) and passed them on to him.

Which means that one of my lovely friends (who I know check their own children's hair more frequently than I check mine ) who has given me a hug in the last 2 weeks or so has given them to me..........and none of them (or their children) could ever be described as "stiggy"

I also have very thick hair and find it painful, even with loads of conditioner.

Eventually I bought Hedrin (can't remember the name but it's something like that) and it worked straightaway. Then I found out you can get it on prescription.

I've bought a tangle teazer hairbrush to detangle before nit combing. Makes a huge difference. Daughter has long hair and a sensitive scalp.

For goodness sake! Buy some Nitmix!

Dd and I both got lice running around our heads/hair 10 days ago. 7 days and we were completely clear. It serves me right for not spraying every day, but I shan't be forgetting again.

It may seem expensive, but once you have it, it can last for ages. It's a reasonable standard postage so you can buy a bucket load and still pay the small amount of pp costs and if you need individual advice you can phone him and he's really helpful. Band together with some friends and share it to spread the cost, but I almost guarantee you'll be ordering more because it really does work.
One Mumsnetter took me up on it and marvelled at how great it is.

at my out of character outburst ~ sorry.

colditz · 29/09/2009 14:36

no, they were treated with that silicone stuff that kills the lice without pesticides.

And no, permission slips were not necessary. The residents were adults and quite capable of saying they didn't wish to be treated (which would be utterly respected) and for those incapable of making that decision, the decision was made for them by the manager. When you live in a residential home, you effectively agree to let someone else completely run your life at every point that you aren't capable of.

For example, if you can choose your dinner but not your bank account, your dinner will be a choice from the menu, your bank account will be the one th manager deems appropriate. If you cannot choose your dinner, your dinner will be the best choice for you taking into account what they already know about your likes and dislikes, medical needs and physical state (obese/anorexic)

RE nitcombing in residential homes - nit combs ruin perms. FACT.
