to object to this blackmail over CRB checks?

Are people aware of this? If we want to help in our children's school, even for a one-off occasion such as an outing, we have to be CRB checked to prove we're not child-molesters. BUT, furthermore, it transpires that if OFSTED check back on the paperwork for any recent trips and discover that a parent-helper has not had the relevant check, then the school cannot get anything more than satisfactory in its report.

Am I alone in thinking this is outrageous?

Very true Katiestar

till this term, we have been having non CRB checked parents helping with small groups on trips (so in sole charge of the kids), getting changed for PE/swimming etc

I think it is GOOD to get them checked. It covers the school. BUT just becasue someone has a clear CRB means nothing, there are some parents who should not be helping in school

but I waffle, the rules are getting tighter....its a good thing IMO

katiestar - if they had taught for 20 years in school and done anything in that time, the school would know about the allegations/arrest/court case etc.

Only if they get caught

Its all a bit rich when that former OFSTED chied had allegations of shagging a puipl and is on record as saying that sexual relationships between teachers and pupils could 'experiential and educative on both sides'
Gives you lots of confidence in them !

The proposals come out of the Soham murder case, where, although the murderer was a caretaker at a school, it was not that attended by the victims and as another poster has said, they could have falled prey to him just by meeting him in the town and stopping to pat his dog.

Isn't it ironic then that while all this CRB checking is going on, the children in so many of our schools will still be allowed to spend breaks in open spaces, supervised by only two or 3 staff while the public walk by? That they will still go to schools set alongside public short cuts, with no fencing around the schools, they will carry on walking across public roads to get from one part of the school's site to the other?

Shall we demand CRB checks of those who come into contact with our children in this way?

I think it's just another example of the wildly skewed view we have of paedophile risks to our children.

I'm probably giving up all my volunteer work with children because I object on principle to being put on a database. It sends out the wrong message.
