Ds was born almost 5 years ago, we kept nearly all of his baby stuff 'just in case'!

I have washed all the babygroes and vests etc, but have bought a snowsuit and coming home outfit new so far.
Some of the stuff out the garage is unuseable, but dh got the pushchair and car seat down on the weekend, I washed all the covers and cleaned it, and it actually looks ok (it was a fairly cheap Graco when we bought it for ds, not a fancy £400 job).
I have an almost brand new quinny zapp which I love, so after 6 months will pretty much use it exclusively.

So dh thinks Im being a brat for wanting a new pushchair and car seat, when the one we have will be used for a fairly short amount of time, and has scrubbed up really well.
I know I am, and that the money will be better spent elsewhere (nice treat weekend away for me and dh or extra money for xmas pressies etc), but I still feel a bit hard done by that I have to take ds to school with new baby in crummy old pushchair .

Oh god Im ashamed of myself for just typing that, it makes me sound awful, especially since its my 3rd!
So come and tell me AIBU so I can feel better bout it all and give myself a bloody good slap

Don't do it I had a perfectly good 3 yr old pram I bought a new one and I find it 50 times easier to use a sling to take her on school run.

Why don't you buy a sling instead.

nah a sling isnt really me

have googled the car seat thing, it says that it should have an expiration date on or check manufacturers website. So will do that tonight.

When I had dd (13 years ago) my mum bought me a top of the range M&P pram/pushchair thing, I only used it for about 8 months then sold it for a quarter of the price. I swore Id never do it again which is why I bought a Graco for ds and then a nice quinny in the sale, I also have a crappy mothercare stroller which does the job too

Oh dear, have phoned Graco and they say the maximum they recommend is 5 years.

So now looks like I need a car seat and a from birth pushchair ..... any suggestions??

ok too lazy to start another thread so hoping some of you will be willing to help me out with a decision.

I either keep Graco pushchair to use from birth and buy a maxi cosi car seat (£99) to use when out and about with zapp frame.

Or I buy a new travel system like these for about £160-£180 here

any advice or opinions would be great thanks

a newborn shouldnt be in a car seat for long periods of time, so unless you will only be using the quinny for really short trips I wouldnt have a pram that could only be used with a car seat from birth, does the graco lay flat? if so i think i would buy a new maxi cosi for in the car and have baby laying flat in the pram?

Or, if you want a shiney new pram buy one, use it till about 8 months (which is when everyone I know gave up with the big bulky prams and went on to a maclaren!), then ebay it and use the money for a treat?

Cadelaide · 28/09/2009 17:42

YABUAR

Danthe4th · 28/09/2009 17:49

I was really proud to use my pram which was a very good mamas and papas for all 4 children, I did buy a new car seat and pushchair for the car for the last 2 but I still used the pram and its back in the loft. I also bought a new double buggy, but you're not going to be happy using the old one so knowing what hormones can do when you have the baby I would buy one now at least you can decide with a sensible brain and get the best price.Happy shopping!!

mosschops30 · 28/09/2009 18:10

what is YABUAR??????

ruby yes see my last post, will deffo have to have new car seat one way or the other because even Graco dont recommend we use the old one.

yes I think the most sensible option is to buy a maxi cosi for the car, and maybe short trips when we can use the quinny zapp frame, but for day to day walking to and from school use the old Graco pushchair which lies flat and it sparkling after a good wash at the weekend

sorry if the link does not work have not done one before or for a boy they do one the same in blue.

beaniesinthebucketagain · 28/09/2009 18:28

maxi cosi carseats are fantastic, cant recomend them highly enought, and tbh, we had 'wheels' for ours and a lay flat pram so there was more space when using the car!

mosschops30 · 28/09/2009 18:31

the petite star citybug is on offer on Boots.com for £119.99 for the travelsystem.

Anyone know what its like, or how good the car seat is? Seems mad to spend £100 on a car seat when can have travel system for extra £20

mum23monkeys · 28/09/2009 19:54

YABU, but so was I.

What I did was buy the new pram, but made sure I bought one half price in the sales (it wasn't the exact colours I would have chosen, but didn't really matter.

I kept it in immaculate condition (didn't use the raincover etc) and then sold it after 6 months when dc3 could go in the stroller. I asked for exactly what I had paid for it, and got it.

So I used a pram for 6 months for nothing, and another lady then got it for half its rrp.

We were both happy (although I didn't mention what I had paid!)

Go for it. You know you want to...

PS I want a Bee too, but dc3 is now 2 1/2 so really struggling to justify it, although she does have 4 miles everyday on the school run to travel.

CommonNortherner · 28/09/2009 20:18

If you can comfortably buy a new one do that and give the older one free to someone who needs it/charity. Win-win! Person who can't afford pushchair gets pushchair, person who can afford pushchair gets pushchair!

mosschops30 · 28/09/2009 20:51

I have ordered the petite star one so as long as its ok I can give me very clean Graco away to someone who needs it
