To have walked away from a "posh" restaurant without paying this afternoon?

The last few times I've visited it was fantastic.(a couple of years ago)

I have never moaned about anything in my life (under my breath and that's the extent to my protest)and have always been a quiet admirer when I see someone complaining in a queue or restaurant. I have never been assertive but today after years of accepting crud service and being pushed around I decided I wasn't going to have it anymore and took control.

Despite reminding the waitresses several times that we had ordered our drinks they didn't come for almost 30 minutes, then our meals arrived and our children's sausages were so rock hard I thought it looked like they'd been microwaved before being pan fried- we couldn't cut them but they made excellent drum sticks when we knocked them against the tables.

So I asked for service and told the waitress that I wasn't happy with the sausages and could we have some fresh ones- she made such a faff about taking all of the plates but having now sat down for 30 minutes with four tired hugry children I told her to just take the sausages away and bring fresh ones- she told me she couldn't do that and when tackled about not being allowed to do that I asked for the manager. She came over and agreed that they could bring some fresh sausages-

Ten minutes later she brings a plate with some sausages (the alfresco area was packed BTW)and when I went to cut them, they oozed pink and on touch were frozen inside

Whilst I was waiting for the waitress I then noticed that instead of French Dressing they had put gravy on my salad and dressing on my husbands roast dinner....arghh.. losing the will to live I went inside (away from the packed out dining terrace) found the manager and gave her the sausages- she said there was nothing wrong with them and they would be how she would serve them at home

I told her enough was enough and that I was not prepared to risk the so called chef making us anything else and I would not be prepared to pay for any of the meal given that it was such a cock up/a disgrace and frankly laughable that she would charge me almost £85 for it and that I would leave very quietly if she agreed to this- she told me to go then.

And I did, I have never done anything like that in my life and feel great for doing so- we don;t get to go out as a family and I was treating my dad.

Complain people! Do it! I will never go there again, I won't recommend it to anyone and if I ever get offered crappy food like that again I will brace myself and do the same.

Hello by the way this is my first post and judging by how some of these threads go I'm hoping it won't be too stormy an introduction.

Hello.

Brilliant.
I walked out of F and B a few weeks ago due to awful service and completely crap food. I too was a first time walker outer - feels great to stand up for yourself doesn't it?

Gravy on salad. Heard it all now

ilovesprouts · 27/09/2009 18:43

good on you!! you did right ,

Pennies · 27/09/2009 18:46

Lemontea - it does serve you right for walking into F&B in the first place tho as they are just the worst places on this planet.

HerHonesty · 27/09/2009 18:49

what is f and b?

cookielove · 27/09/2009 18:50

frankie and bennys?

Lemontea · 27/09/2009 18:50

I know. Needed a quick meal, didn't get it - but kept the crayons and crappy colouring in book, so not a completely wasted experience

Tee2072 · 27/09/2009 18:51

Good for you! Until people complain, and complain loudly, every time something is not up to the correct standards, nothing will change.

This doesn't mean to expect things you don't
deserve, but to expect the things you do.

Lemontea · 27/09/2009 18:51

Yes - Frankie and Bennys

You need to report them to environmental health as someone could easily get ill eating food like that.

BitOfFun · 27/09/2009 19:05

I've eaten at a Frankie and Bennys and it was great- perhaps they are a franchise and some are shit?

Rindercella · 27/09/2009 19:14

Welcome to MN QueenBanana. Great first post & YANBU. I would have walked too. I think you did it with very good grace, which is probably a great deal more than I would have managed

I think F&B are a franchise. There's one we used to go too which was great, but the one that recently opened in our local town is dire.

donkeyderby · 27/09/2009 19:34

It depends how much you ate of the meal. I went to a posh restaurant recently and the next table made a huge (drunken) fuss, demanding they shouldn't pay. They had eaten the whole meal and drunk several bottles of wine and were abusive. They ended up paying half the bill. If some of the meal was good, then it's surely only fair to pay a percentage, with money knocked off for shit service.

queenbanana · 27/09/2009 19:37

We had two or three sips of drink, the children couldn't physically eat chew the sausages at first and I'd say a forkful of warm gravy salad, none of the french dressed roast pork and my dad had about a quarter of his meal and would happily have chomped through mine to be fair!

Lots of other diners were looking at us as we walked off as we had left almost everything on that table.

So, to clarify I was not taking the piss unlike some so called scammers who eat almost everything and then produce a pubic hair a few moments from the bill being produced!

Good for you! (from your post heading I thought you had done a runner!).

CNyle · 27/09/2009 20:12

FRANKIE AND BENNYS IS POSH?

nbee84 · 27/09/2009 20:20

Well done queenbanana - we English are far too reserved and don't complain often enough. I've never been brave enough to complain as I worry that they might spit in my food before it comes out of the kitchen

  • Must admit my idea of posh would be £85 for 2 people, not 3 adults and 2 kids - but that's irrelevant, whether it's £20 or £200 you want food that is edible and tasty.
CNyle · 27/09/2009 20:21

frankie and bennys is crap processed isnt it?
