About once a week, if I'm particularly a) fraught b) tired c) in a frame of mind which would contemplate screaming loudly; I give the children fish fingers, oven chips and beans. Since becoming a mumsnet contributor (well terrified and inadequate reader mainly) I am feeling horribly guilty about this. Please tell me it's ok.

Lol, pag, that's what I've been doing -- fishfingers every Friday because I've had enough of being imaginative for the week, and then finally dd2 pipes up 'but Mummy, we had fishfingers already at school'.

So now it's sausages.

pranma · 23/09/2009 20:32

Fish figer sandwich with ketchup followed by a bit of fruit nutricious and delicious

UniS · 23/09/2009 20:56

LOL bran. I've got one who won't touch beans, but wolfs cucumber.

Deemented · 23/09/2009 21:03

If you're a bad mum, then i'm worse.

My two had Jam butties for tea tonight

In my defence, it's what DS asked for, and he had a big lunch....

kalo12 · 23/09/2009 21:09

i was worrying about giving fish fingers , chips and beans for too many meals in a week , so i asked another mother what she gave her kids for lunch, she said nutella sandwiches! now i feel good

waitingforbedtime · 23/09/2009 21:11

No it is NOT bad. I can only dream that ds will ever eat anything like it! He eats various forms of pasta for dinner. That is all.

Bigpants1 · 23/09/2009 21:39

compared to the thread i read on here last night that involved offering the dc spinach stew, i know which meal most dcs would eat and ENJOY-and as someone on that thread said, food should be for enjoyment and pleasure as well as nutritious.
Bring on the fishfingers.

fedupofthisnausea · 23/09/2009 22:27

Oh i do miss the days that my DD used to wolf down spinach and brocolli and all the other oh so healthy vegies - actually brocolli and cucumbers still go down a treat with her, along with cauliflower but thats it on the veg front.

But tonight we had Jacket with beans and cheese - but the beans had those little sausages in which she loves (unhealthy but who cares that much). Then a big bowl of ice-cream for afters (we don't usually do pudding but when we do we make it worthwhile it's amazing we are all still slim, lol)

So it was overall healthy with a small helping of 'not so healthy but yummy'

I think this way it makes the dinners go down a treat. Jacket, beans and cheese is actually easier that chips/fish fingers/beans etc in my opinion but that's not why i do it - More 'cause i love jackets but we do have the fish fingers on occasion too.

All kids i know love this meal so why not give it a try if you are feeling that guilty. Personally i don't think you are doing anything wrong at all though so it's not judgement just an idea if it's really getting to you.

Plonk the potats in the oven for an hour (so easy because you just put them in and forget about them until the oven timer beeps at you), cut open and add butter, cheese and beans (or tin of beans&sausages done in the microwave) and tadda!!! Prepared in less than 5mins

It's my lazy days meal which tends to happen at least once a week

SolidGoldBrass · 23/09/2009 22:39

Oh, and my DS has eaten in McDonalds, as well, and hasn't died.

letsblowthistacostand · 23/09/2009 23:38

We had frozen waffles, scrambled egg and smoothies for dinner. Smoothies were homemade with lots of nice berries so I feel like they're getting some nutrition!

letsblowthistacostand · 23/09/2009 23:42

Also meant to say, the kids have fish fingers, chips and peas/beans at least once a week. Hasn't killed them yet.

colditz · 23/09/2009 23:42

look, the people an mumsnet aren't real. They are triple filtered people, without the rough edges and odd floating bits of the people you meet out in the street.

For example, I am known on mumsnet for no-nonsense parenting. But this evening I PLEADED with ds2 to go to bed, and bribed him with a dummy, and when ds1 nagged for my toffes, instead of explaining that it was nearly bedtime and toffee is not good close to bedtime, I lied and said it was speacial, alcoholic toffee.

Although, in hindsight, this may have been simple wishful thinking.

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/09/2009 23:54

Oh dear OP if you are a bad mum I am the worstest in the world.

DS1 has had today....
cornflakes(breakfast)
jelly (breakfast)

Whatever he had for school lunch

and then chicken chow mein for dinner...not my fault if there is a chinese take away across the road from my front door is it!!!

DS2 has had

Yoghurt (breakfast)

Lump of cheese

9000000000 bottles of milk/hot chocolate

Lump of cheese

quavers

and a chocolate spread sandwich for dinner.

Again not my fault he is a milk monster!

But they are both healthy lads.

off to find the fishfingers and have a sandwich.

GrimmaTheNome · 24/09/2009 00:02

[green] I only wish my DD would eat fish fingers! She loved them when she was a toddler and then totally and completely went off fish.

GrimmaTheNome · 24/09/2009 00:03

Whenever I see it translates as [green]
