eat spanish style chickpea stew with wilted spinach . DD has made herself choke to get out of eating it and DS1 has been in tears at the table. I cannot believe the fuss they made! DS2 ate it all after a slap bit of gentle encouragement!!

DD screamed 'why can't we eat normal food like normal families?' When asked to elaborate she said we should eat mashed potatoes, chips, fishfingers and sausages etc (which we do eat as well as my veggie concoctions ).

I have also refused to buy their usual Cocopops and Cheerios and am making organic porridge with dessicated coconut and golden syrup for their breakfast and we were late for school this morning due to the amount of time it took for DS1 to take one spoonful . I am sick of them always wanting to eat crap (although even if I give them pizza or chips they usually don't eat much because they are constantly raiding the fridge). AIBU to take a stand or am I wasting my time??? They are aged between 7 & 12 BTW

Lock the fridge?
Jesus that sounds a bit hasty.

moondog · 22/09/2009 22:16

Lentil and coconut casserole is dahl.
Which is bloody nice.

Spidermama · 22/09/2009 22:18

Oooooooooh Dilly. Who rattled your cage?

DillyTantay · 22/09/2009 22:18

oh these threads of black and white

moondog · 22/09/2009 22:21

I was genuinely perplexed when I bought lots of darling little bottles of Fevertree lemonade for all the kids when we had a bbq a few weeks back.

Fast forward to lots of kids gagging and mothers whispering 'Well just leave it there then. And please stop pretending to be sick!'

Dh collected 16 barely touched bottles lodged in various crannies the next day.

Hah hah!!!

Apparently the kebabw were 'ooh very spicy!!' too.

dogonpoints · 22/09/2009 22:22

the whole tone of 'my kids would love to get their hands on this and that but by jingo I won't let 'em'

DillyTantay · 22/09/2009 22:23

adn the " as every other kid rejects it we are consderably better than yaou"

very odd.
but hey ho.
proof in pudding
ba boom

cheesesarnie · 22/09/2009 22:24

my dc eat crap too.they just eat good & bad-a mix!

Spidermama · 22/09/2009 22:25

I see that tone as excellent, strong and correct myself.

If you feel threatened by it, why join the thread and upset yourself?

pispirispis · 22/09/2009 22:25

Evil cackle Lol moondog, well maybe the OP shouldn't lock the fridge, but it must be a real pita to go to all the trouble of cooking something special only for her dc not to eat it, and snacks probably make them pickier... Maybe a better solution would be just to hide away for herself stop buying the crap

Agreed lentil and coconut casserole is yummy. But not to everyone's taste, fair enough.

dogonpoints · 22/09/2009 22:26

There is a hierarchy of food pride. Eg spicy beats olive

Spidermama · 22/09/2009 22:27

No-one actually said the comment you have in quote marks Dilly. That's your interpretation.

lavenderkate · 22/09/2009 22:27

I had a packet of crisps and a glass of vino for tea.
I want dahl now !

NotanOtter · 22/09/2009 22:27

do you need to cook coconut for ages to make it soft?

dogonpoints · 22/09/2009 22:28

I am not upsetting myself. It's an AIBU thread on middle class mn, that's all

Spidermama · 22/09/2009 22:28

I just by coconut milk or creamed coconut.

ElectricElephant · 22/09/2009 22:28

Oh FFS, just give them normal food that they will eat? Wilted spinach? Haaahaahha

sorry.

moondog · 22/09/2009 22:29

I don't consider myself to be any better or worse than anyone else. My kids (like everyone's) would eat nowt but crap. Kids naturally like bland uniformly textured food and if that is all they get, that is all they eat.

My dd has to be reined in. I went to the States for a week with work in May and dh took them to see hids family.I was staggered at how much weight she's put on in what was obviously an unbridled week long shit food frenzy.

For me tohugh, the point is that I don't want to eat shite food so why on earth would I buy it for my kids? I love every single meal I eat and plan it all carefully.

The Fevertree episode had me roaring with laughter at my own preciousness.

Spidermama · 22/09/2009 22:29

Buy not by, obv.

NotanOtter · 22/09/2009 22:30

what's not normal about spinach ( obligatory ffs)

moondog · 22/09/2009 22:30

Spider, may I share with you that I grate my own coconuts and prepare my own coconut cream using special grater stool?

Childhood spent in the Trpics y'see.

Electricelephant and Dogon I don't think you would have taken well to a boy who was at my house the other day.

He was bemoaning the shite food at a party he'd recently been to and saying, 'Mummy they had a not-very-nice sausage wrapped in a croissant'.

Spidermama · 22/09/2009 22:33

I'm impressed with your coconut skills Moondog. Does it taste appreciably fresher? Do you ever resort to creamed coconut in the packet?
